Step-by-Step Applications

Below are the application steps. Please click on the specific step for details.

Choosing the right programme is a big decision and not everyone is certain of what they want to study. Talk to your teachers, parents and read through faculty and department descriptions to get an idea of what might be right for you. Please find out the details here.

 

To apply for PolyU programmes, you are required to fulfil the English language requirements (here) and academic requirements (here). 

 

  • A copy of your academic transcript(s) issued by your high school/institution and/or national/international examination results (e.g. SAT, GCEAL etc.) and/or predicted grade for your upcoming examination issued by your school (if applicable)
  • Other supporting documents (if applicable)
  • Some programmes may ask for additional documentation – please check the requirements (here).

 

All applicants are required to pay an application fee of HKD450. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please submit your scholarship application with your university application. Create an eAdmission profile and submit your application online.

 

Log in to the system frequently to check for updates. You will be informed when additional documents are required. An interview may be necessary, and this is usually arranged online.

 

Successful applicants will receive their admission offer online. Admission results are usually announced from late January to May. Scholarship results will be announced at the same time.

Qualifications

General Admission Requirements

ACT or SAT Reasoning Test, plus Advanced Placement Test (AP)

A High School Diploma with an overall average of 75% or above, and the followings:
ACT: Composite score of 24 or above;
OR
SAT: Total score of 1,190 or above
AND
AP: Grade 3 or above in 2 AP subjects

GCE A-Level / International A-Level** Grade B or above in 3 A-Level subjects
International Baccalaureate (IB)**

An IB Diploma, with 32 points or above (including bonus points)

**Applicants with good results in these qualifications can be given credit transfer from 9 credits to a maximum of 25% of the award requirements upon admission to the 4-year degree curriculum. For details, please refer to this link.

English Language Requirements

Non-local applicants are required to meet the following English language requirements:

Any of the following qualifications:

  • IELTS: Overall Band Score of 6 or above in the Academic Module
  • TOEFL: Internet-based Test of 80 or above (in one sitting)

For applicants who have reached an equivalent English standard as below, the above English language requirement can be waived.

  • ACT: Score of 23 or above in both English and Reading (in one sitting)
  • SAT: Score of 590 or above in Evidence-based Reading and Writing
  • International Baccalaureate (IB): Grade 4 or above in English or English Literature (HL / SL)
  • GCEOL / GCSE / IGCSE: Grade C / 4 or above in English

***Individual cases will be considered on their own merits by the departments concerned. Applicants may be required to attend interviews or tests to further demonstrate their language proficiency.
