The organisations offering internship opportunities (Host Organisations) include government/public agencies, private companies, international organisations, academic institutions, think tanks, arts, and cultural organisations. The Scheme now covers students of 11 participating Hong Kong higher education institutions (Hong Kong Institutions), including PolyU.

 

 Eligibility:

    • Year 2 or above, full-time students of UGC-funded undergraduate degree programmes 
  • Aged 18 or above with valid travel document
  • Excellent English communication and writing skills

Location:

Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore

Compensation:

Mostly unpaid; internships with allowance are specified in job details

Duration:

Summer WIE starting from May 2026; from 6 to 12 weeks

Financial assistance from GEO:

A. Offshore WIE Sponsorship (OWS) (NOT applicable for virtual internship):

  • Year 2 or above, full-time students of UGC-funded undergraduate degree programmes  
  • WIE endorsement from the academic department will be required

B. Hardship Allowance (NOT applicable for virtual internship):

  • Students with proven financial difficulties can apply for a Hardship Allowance in support of expenses to be incurred in Mainland or International WIE.

C. Learning Incentive

  • Students will receive a cash incentive (HK$2,300) for their efforts in maximising the WIE learning opportunities.
