Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) 2022/2023

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) offers the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, with an aim to attract the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies. Nominated HKPFS candidates by PolyU to RGC will automatically be admitted to the following:

PolyU Presidential PhD Fellowship Scheme
PolyU Research Postgraduate Scholarship

PolyU's HKPFS package

Monthly Stipend

Conference Grant per year

Cash Award

Research Excellence Scholarship

Hall Accommodation

HK$26,900 for the entire normal study period

HK$13,500 for the entire normal study period

HK$40,000 in the first year

HK$20,000 from the second year to end of normal study period

Waiving of tuition fees for the entire normal study period

Guaranteed for 2 years

Remarks: The fellowship and scholarship schemes are mutually exclusive. Each full-time research student will be eligible to receive one fellowship/scholarship only.

Application Procedures

Step 1. Submission of Initial Application

Noon, 1 Sep - Noon, 1 Dec 2021 (HKT)

Submit one initial application only to the Research Grants Council (RGC) through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) Electronic System to obtain a HKPFS reference number.
Indicate the preference on the institutions if two institutions are chosen instead of one.
No change to the choice of institutions/preference is allowed after application submission.

Step 2. Submission of Full Application to PolyU

On or Before 23:59, 1 Dec 2021 (HKT)

Use the Reference Number and submit a full application at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/admission and settle the non-refundable application fee of HKD300 for each application.
Applicant is reminded to submit two separate full applications online if s/he has chosen two PolyU programmes from two different departments. An application fee is required for each full application.
If two PolyU programmes belong to two research areas of a programme offered by the same department, only one full application is required.
Nominate two academic referees who can comment on your academic performances.
