Technical Visit to Lamma Power Station & Lamma Wind Turbine

8 May 2026

The Electrical Engineering Alumni Association (EEAA) organized a final, historic technical visit for BEng Electrical Engineering students to the Lamma Power Station (LPS) and its landmark 800 kW wind turbine. Participants gained firsthand insight into large-scale power infrastructure, exploring combined-cycle gas-turbine generators, heat recovery systems, and the station's extensive solar power array. The highlight of the trip was the rare opportunity to visit Hong Kong’s first and only large-scale wind turbine just three days before its scheduled demolition on 11 May 2026, allowing students to document and study this unique piece of the city’s renewable energy history. By bridging classroom theory with the practical complexities of power generation and sustainable technology, the visit successfully embodied the department’s mission to engage and enlighten the next generation of future-ready engineers.
