You are cordially invited to a research talk titled “Rethinking Research: The Role of Humans in Scientific Discovery in the Age of LLMs” by Prof. Sir Bashir M. Al‑Hashimi, Vice President (Research & Innovation) and Arm Professor of Computer Engineering at King’s College London, on 6 May 2026 (Wednesday) at 3:00 - 4:30 pm (Hong Kong Time) in Lecture Theatre HJ305, 3/F, Stanley Ho Building, PolyU. The event is jointly organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR).
Prof. Sir Bashir is the elected Fellow of the Royal Society, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the Academia Europaea. He is a leading researcher in hardware–software co‑design and energy‑efficient computing, with innovations adopted in billions of smartphones worldwide. He is also Co‑Director of the King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence.
The talk will explore how artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) are reshaping scientific discovery, doctoral training, and the evolving partnership between humans and AI. Rather than offering definitive conclusions, it aims to spark dialogue and inspire new ways of thinking about the future of research in an AI‑driven world.
