Edge Intelligence for IoT: From 5G Physical Layer to Indoor Farming Systems
Dr Tanuja Shanmukhappa, NaturesLab Saffron, India
Abstract:Edge intelligence is becoming a key enabler for modern IoT systems by allowing data to be processed closer to where it is generated, improving responsiveness, efficiency, and reliability. In this presentation, I will discuss on edge intelligence based on my 5G physical layer experience and an agri-tech startup. I will discuss how communication-system design principles helped me in developing edge-based solutions in my indoor farming systems.
Speaker’s Bio: Dr. Tanuja is currently serving as a Visiting Lecturer at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electronics and Communication Engineering from India, followed by a PhD from PolyU. During her doctoral studies, she also completed an academic exchange at Imperial College London. Dr. Tanuja brings over six years of industry experience from the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), where she worked on 5G physical layer technologies. She has also gained valuable experience in analog/digital IP verification and validation through her work with NXP Semiconductors and Infineon Technologies. In addition to her academic and industry contributions, she co-founded an agri-tech startup focused on aeroponics, integrating IoT-based solutions for sustainable agriculture. She is currently interested in fostering active collaborations and exploring new opportunities in wireless communications, IoT, and applied technology domains.
