Mix, Smash & Mingle: Alumni Badminton Social Play

Three exciting sessions of “Mix, Smash & Mingle: Alumni Badminton Social Play” were held on 1 March and 15 March respectively, providing the platform for some 40 alumni to have fun and socialise through their shared passion for badminton.  The sessions saw enthusiastic alumni from various graduation years and fields engaging in dynamic, friendly games and sharing their insights on the upcoming Alumni Badminton Club. All participants enjoyed an energising time with the opportunity to rekindle old friendships and make new connections over spirited games. This event series was as a successful pre-launch initiative for the Alumni Badminton Club. Stay tuned for more updates and join this vibrant community!

Saturday KICKOFF: Alumni Association Football Encounter

Following the vibrant atmosphere of the futsal friendly matches held on Alumni Homecoming Day, another football friendly game "Saturday KICKOFF: Alumni Association Football Encounter" was successfully held last Saturday. Almost 40 alumni football enthusiasts from 4 alumni associations includes APSSGA, EEAA, LSGIAA and MBAAA joined and enjoyed the game! The “Alumni Football Club" will also be established soon! Visits from overseas alumni

In early March 2025, representatives from two overseas associations, namely The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Western Canada) Association and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Australia) Association, visited their alma mater. Travelling all the way from Vancouver and Sydney, they were warmly welcomed by the University. On 5 March, Mr Mickey Tse, President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Western Canada) Association, along with committee members, toured various landmarks on campus, including the newly opened University Gallery. Following the tour, they were pleased to meet with the representatives from the Alumni Affairs Office and the Global Engagement Office, who emphasised the importance of support from overseas alumni, especially in exploring partnerships and internships abroad. Mr Bosco Lau, Former President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Australia) Association, along with other representatives and friends of the Association,  also visited PolyU on 12 March.  The group met with Prof. Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President of PolyU, and Prof. Geoffrey Shen, Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships), Director of Global Engagement and Chair Professor of Construction Management of PolyU. They shared the latest development and achievements of the University.  During the meeting, Mr Lau presented donations from some members of the Association to demonstrate their support for the University. The University expressed its gratitude to the Associations for their ongoing support, particularly for their enthusiastic reception of PolyU students participating in exchange programmes in Western Canada and Australia.

PolyU Mainland Alumni Spring Gathering 2025

On 9 March 2025, PolyU Mainland Alumni Spring Gathering was successful held at China World Hotel in Beijing. Dr Lam Tai-fai, Chairman, the Council of PolyU, Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, Professor Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President, Ir Professor Edwin Cheng, Dean, Faculty of Business, Professor Lu Haitian, Director of Mainland Development, Ms Amy Li, Assistant Director of Mainland Development and approximately 300 distinguished guests, representatives of the Mainland Alumni Networks, and PolyU alumni gathered at this event. President Teng delivered a welcome remark, emphasing PolyU's dedication to cultivating talents with international perspectives and innovation to contribute to the nation. Professor Miranda Lou was delighted to share PolyU’s achievements over the past year in expanding the alumni network, promoting exchanges and fostering industry-university-research collaboration, and expressed sincere gratitude for the alumni's support and contributions. Mr Yang Dongri, President of PolyU Beijing Alumni Network, and Dr Jiang Bo, Secretary of the RUC - PolyU Doctor of Management Alumni Network, delivered speeches as representatives of the alumni network. After that, the new Executive Committee of RUC - PolyU Doctor of Management Alumni Network was inaugurated. The event featured a variety of highlights, including poetry recitations by alumni representatives and lucky draw. It ended with cheers, leaving everyone with lasting memories of the evening.

Spring outing to Tung Lung Chau and Lei Yue Mun

As the vibrant spring season unfolds, the Alumni Affairs Office, in collaboration with the Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations (FHKPUAA), hosted an alumni event to explore the scenic landscapes of Tung Lung Chau and Lei Yue Mun. In the morning, 40 alumni and their companions voyaged from Sam Ka Tsuen Pier to Tung Lung Chau. Participants hiked along the trail and reached the northern part of the island, where they enjoyed stunning views of the iconic beacon and the Clear Water Bay Peninsula across the water, capturing memories in photos. Afterward, the group returned to Sam Ka Tsuen and walked to Lei Yue Mun for a delightful seafood lunch. During the meal, Ir Yau Kwok-fai, President of FHKPUAA, shared the history of PolyU and encouraged support for events at the alma mater. Meanwhile, the “Alumni Tours and Adventures Club” introduced the community and upcoming events, which sparked enthusiasm among the alumni. It was warm and sunny afternoon, with a gentle breeze, the group visited the Tin Hau Temple and the beacon before arriving at the Lei Yue Mun Quarry. Everyone enjoyed chatting by the coastline, bringing a joyful conclusion to the event. The pre-launch event of the “Alumni Tours and Adventures Club” was a success. Alumni are warmly invited to join this vibrant community for upcoming journeys of exploration.

Celebrate Your Blossoming Youth at PolyU: Alumni Reunion Dinner

On 27 February 2025, the “Celebrate Your Blossoming Youth at PolyU: Alumni Reunion Dinner” was successfully held at the PolyU Student Halls of Residence (Hung Hom). The event brought together over two hundred alumni and the senior management of PolyU in a warm gathering, celebrating the festive start of the new year while deepening connections, especially between the young alumni community and their alma mater. The dinner took place in the nostalgic student hall. Many alumni joined an exclusive guided tour before the event, exploring new facilities while reminiscing about old times together. President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng welcomed all guests as the dinner commenced, expressing his joy at reuniting with the alumni family in the new year. He took the opportunity to share PolyU’s latest developments and achievements in education, research, knowledge transfer, and more. A joyous and colourful “Lo Hei” followed, which was hosted by: President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng; Prof. Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President; Ir Yau Kwok-fai, PolyU Council Member and President of the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations; Ir Prof. Tsui Tack-kong, recipient of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award; Mr Ben Lau, Associate Vice President (Campus Development and Facilities); Prof. Li Xiangdong, Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Environment; Prof. Hang Xing, Associate Dean (Global Engagement) of the Faculty of Humanities; Prof. Fan Di, Assistant Dean of the School of Fashion and Textiles; and Ms Maewoon Diana Liu, Director of Alumni Affairs. This symbolic gesture embodied the unity of PolyU’s alumni community in fostering engagement and celebrating their ongoing success with their alma mater. After that, Prof. Miranda Lou provided an overview of the University’s new alumni engagement efforts. She particularly introduced the newly established alumni interest clubs, where core members were eager to engage graduates from various generations and disciplines. This new year celebration also featured other exciting programmes: each graduate received a commemorative pin and took group photos with their peers against a vibrant floral backdrop; they enjoyed exciting quiz games and lucky draws, winning prizes generously sponsored by dedicated alumni and academic units; and the fantastic performances by the Alumni Band and student singer captivated the audience, with Ir Prof. Johnny Fan Siu-kay, an Outstanding PolyU Alumni Awardee, delivering two more classic songs that received warm applause. In a grand finale, three winners of the best-dressed award, chosen by all attendees, were announced amid a lively atmosphere. They received prizes from last year’s award recipients, making the moment even more meaningful. This night celebrating youth was filled with laughter, cheer, and the click of cameras capturing many precious moments of bonds, leaving everyone with special gifts and fond memories. The Alumni Affairs Office sincerely thanks all PolyU members for their enthusiastic participation, and looks forward to creating more unforgettable experiences with alumni on campus in the future. 【PolyU Former Staff Network】Former Staff Homecoming

The Former Staff Homecoming on 27 February 2025 was a remarkable celebration that brought together dedicated former staff members of PolyU to reconnect and honour their shared experiences. Participants enjoyed engaging guided tours of the University Gallery and Pao Yue-kong Library, as well as leisurely strolls around campus, immersing themselves in the University’s rich history and new developments. A highlight of the day was the lively tea gathering at the Alumni Atrium, where attendees shared stories, exchanged views, and rekindled friendships. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie that highlighted their close bond with PolyU. Following the gathering, nine former staff members went on to join the Alumni Reunion Dinner at PolyU Student Halls of Residence, further celebrating their journey with the PolyU community. The event also marked the official launch of the Former Staff Network. Co-founders in attendance included Professor Cheong-ki Chan, Dr Carmen Fu, Mrs Helen Ku-Yu, Mr Daniel Suen, and Dr Frank Xu, who shared their vision of fostering long-term connections among former staff. Another co-founder, Dr Daniel Lee, was also acknowledged for his contributions despite his absence. As a new chapter begins and exciting opportunities await, we look forward to strengthening bonds and creating wonderful memories together in the Network. Let us continue to celebrate the enduring legacy and strong ties that have shaped the PolyU journeys.

【Alumni Chess & Boardgames Club x Alumni Singing Club】Melody & Boardgames @ Alumni Atrium

The “Melody & Boardgames @ Alumni Atrium” event on 17 February 2025 was a fantastic gathering where PolyU alumni and students came together to celebrate their shared passions for music and board games. With over 50 participants, the event successfully blended these two interests, fostering new friendships and strengthening alumni connections. One of the highlights was the unexpected crossover between music lovers and board game enthusiasts. Some attendees who initially registered for singing found themselves drawn to the chess and board games zone, while others who came for the games could not resist joining the karaoke room after hearing fellow alumni sing. This spontaneous exchange of interests made the event even more dynamic and engaging, allowing participants to explore new hobbies and bond over shared experiences. Both the current and former chairpersons of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Student Affairs Office Chess and Boardgames Club also joined the event, adding a special touch by sharing new knowledge and fostering a relaxing atmosphere for alumni from different generations to connect with one another.  Moreover, this evening marked the official launch of the Alumni Singing Club, and the Alumni Chess and Boardgames Club. All the core members were present during the launch, including Ir Prof. Johnny Fan, Mr Darron Sun, and Mr Alan Wu, who represented the Alumni Singing Club; as well as Mr Frankie Lee, Ms Chloe Lau, and Ms Venessa Chung, who represented the Alumni Chess and Boardgames Club. They celebrated the beginning of these exciting new alumni clubs together, paving the way for greater alumni engagement in the future. “Melody & Boardgames @ Alumni Atrium” was more than just an event – it was the beginning of a thriving community where alumni can continue to share their passions and grow together.
