With the recent buzz surrounding the film “Dear You”, its narrative thread, qiaopi (remittance letters sent by overseas Chinese to their hometowns, often combining personal correspondence with remittance receipts), has once again captured public attention.
On 11 August 2026, alumni returned to campus for a screening of “Dear You”, gaining a deeper understanding of qiaopi culture and the history of overseas Chinese communities through the film. Earlier this month, on 2 August 2026, the Alumni Culture and Heritage Tours Club and the Alumni Photography and Films Club jointly invited alumni to attend the opening ceremony of a qiaopi exhibition sponsored by alumnus Mr Michael Tsang. Featuring precious qiaopi artefacts and historical archives, the exhibition offered participants a closer look at the stories behind these “letters and remittances”, and the deep sense of home and country they embodied.
From campus screening to exhibition, the two events enriched alumni’s appreciation of family ties and inspired reflection on cultural heritage through sharing and exchange. For more event highlights, please visit the online gallery.
