Project Title
Biological Mechanisms of Repeated Low-Level Red-Light Therapy in Myopia Control

 

Synopsis

Myopia is a rapidly growing global public health problem, particularly among children and adolescents. Excessive axial elongation is a major structural feature of myopia and increases the risk of sight-threatening complications later in life. Repeated low-level red-light (RLRL) therapy has shown promising efficacy in slowing myopia progression; however, the biological mechanisms underlying its effects on ocular growth remain incompletely understood.

This project aims to investigate how RLRL regulates ocular growth and refractive development, with particular emphasis on the interactions among the retina, choroid and sclera. Experimental models of myopia will be used to characterize structural,
cellular and molecular changes induced by RLRL and to examine whether these responses are related to the eye’s endogenous mechanisms of recovery from myopia. Ocular imaging, histological and molecular analyses, functional experiments and multi-omics approaches will be integrated to identify key signaling pathways and cellular interactions.

The findings may provide mechanistic insights into RLRL-mediated myopia control and contribute to the development of safer and more effective strategies for preventing myopia progression.
