PolyU Orientation Showcase – Over 3,500 Freshmen Joined the Fun!

Following yesterday's President's Welcome, the excitement continued at today’s Orientation Showcase! Held on 28 August at the Shaw Sports Complex, the event featured over 40 booths organised by various administrative units, student-led interest clubs and societies, attracting over 3,500 freshmen who came to explore. It was a wonderful opportunity for our freshmen to gain a comprehensive overview of PolyU’s diverse range of support services, co-curricular activities, and campus life, while interacting with staff and senior students – helping them gear up for an amazing PolyU journey! We were especially thrilled to have Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), Prof. Horace Mui, Interim Dean of Students, along with the management team of the Student Affairs Office, visited the booths. They chatted warmly with the freshmen, and encouraged them to actively participate in and enrich their university journey within a vibrant learning environment. Once again, a huge welcome to all new students! Here’s to a fulfilment experience at PolyU!

PolyU hosts Orientation Info Days 2025

(27 August 2025) This year, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) hosts its annual Orientation Info Days on 27 and 28 August, with over 2,300 freshmen attending the President’s Welcome held this morning. Organised by the Student Affairs Office, the event was held today at the Jockey Club Auditorium, which was also live-streamed to enable freshmen to participate simultaneously at the Wong Man and Tang Kit Wah Global Student Hub and various other locations on campus, marking the beginning of their university journey. Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, President of PolyU, welcomed the freshmen to the PolyU family and introduced the University’s rich history and its mission to nurture socially responsible professionals and leaders with a strong sense of national pride and a global perspective. He remarked, “As an innovative, world-class university, PolyU pursues excellence in education, research and knowledge transfer for the benefit of Hong Kong, the Nation and the world. I hope that our graduates will become leaders of innovation, that our research will lead to innovations with direct societal benefits, and that the spirit of innovation will be embedded in all our endeavours. I wish you a rewarding journey at PolyU, where you will not only gain professional knowledge but also grow into a better person in all aspects.” The President’s Welcome featured a variety of sharing and performance sessions. Dr Bruce WANG, recipient of the Outstanding PolyU Young Alumni Award 2022 in Entrepreneurial Achievement and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EcoFlow, delivered an inspiring talk about his academic and personal growth at PolyU, encouraging freshmen to pursue their dreams. Current students also introduced freshmen to campus life and the diverse learning opportunities available. The event included a student dance performance, as well as musical performances by the PolyU Orchestra and the PolyU Choir, showcasing the vibrant artistic life at PolyU. PolyU will hold the Orientation Showcase tomorrow (28 August) at the Shaw Sports Complex. Over 40 booths, hosted by different units, student-led interest clubs and societies, will provide freshmen with a comprehensive overview of PolyU’s diverse range of co-curricular activities and support services. The 2nd PolyU Inter-Collegiate Mixed Gender Water Polo Invitational Tournament

The 2nd PolyU Inter-Collegiate Mixed Gender Water Polo Invitational Tournament, organised by Student Affair Office (SAO) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) sponsored by the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, was successfully concluded on 24 August 2025 at the Michael Clinton Swimming Pool, PolyU. The tournament aims to promote women’s water polo among local universities, raise awareness and inspire more females to get involved into the sport. In addition to PolyU, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and The University of Hong Kong (HKU) sent their mixed gender teams to compete in the format of beach water polo. At the closing ceremony, Professor Horace MUI, Interim Dean of Students of PolyU expressed his heartfelt thanks to all participating teams, “To all the participating universities and participants, we are grateful for your support and participations. Your persistence and sportsmanship are fully demonstrated in today’s competition, showing the excitement and fascination of water polo. It is inspiring to witness the passion and determination displayed by each and everyone of you. PolyU Waterpolo tournament 2025 News and Achievements

The 2nd PolyU Inter-Collegiate Mixed Gender Water Polo Invitational Tournament

We are pleased to announce that the 2nd PolyU Inter-Collegiate Mixed Gender Water Polo Invitational Tournament, organised by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and sponsored by the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, will be held on 24 August 2025, from 09.00 to 18.30 at the Michael Clinton Swimming Pool, PolyU. The tournament aims to promote women’s water polo among local universities, raise awareness and inspire more females to get involved in the sport. In addition to PolyU, City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU),  The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will send mixed gender teams to compete in the tournament. We are also honoured to invite the Hong Kong Women’s Water Polo Team to perform an Exhibition Match, showcasing a high level of skills and teamwork to the participants and audience. 7 Students Recognised at “80th Anniversary of the Victory of the War of Resistance” Essay & Photography Competition

The Award Ceremony of the “80th Anniversary of the Victory of the War of Resistance” Essay and Photography Competition was successfully held on 14 August 2025. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Professor Cao Jiannong, Acting Vice President (Education), and Dr Laura LO, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement), who attended to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the awardees.  We are proud to share that 7 PolyU students received awards in this meaningful competition, with one student achieving distinctions in both categories. They are: Essay Category Champion – Miss FENG Jiayuan Second Runner-up – Mr WANG Yanchao Merit Prize – Miss SU Zeyu Merit Prize – Miss CAO Mengying Merit Prize – Miss ZOU Xinyuan Merit Prize – Mr YIP Kam Shing Merit Prize – Miss WANG Yitong  Photography Category Merit Prize – WANG Yanchao The competition aimed to engage students across Hong Kong in reflecting on historical events, the spirit of resistance, and the importance of peace through essay and photography submissions. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all awardees for their meaningful and inspiring contributions.

Discovering National Development Through Sport: A Journey in Chengdu

From 10th to 16th July 2025, six students from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, including three members of the university’s badminton team, embarked on an exciting adventure at the Fourth “Panda Cup” Youth Badminton Championships and Summer Camp in Chengdu, China. Organised by the Minister of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technology Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Chinese Badminton Association, this vibrant event brought together 14 teams from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Sichuan. These budding athletes showcased their skills on the court, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition. After the matches, PolyU student KONG Siu Hin spoke on behalf of Hong Kong’s youth, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the organisers for creating a valuable platform that allowed students from diverse regions to connect and forge friendships through their shared passion for badminton. Following the competition, the summer camp unfolded with enriching excursions, including visits to the Sanxingdui Museum, the “Two Bombs, One Satellite” Memorial Museum, the Civil Aviation Flight University of China, and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. These experiences opened the students’ eyes to China’s ancient history and modern advancements, deepening their appreciation of national development. Through sport and cultural exploration, the PolyU students not only honed their badminton skills but also solidified their sense of identity and belonging to our Motherland. Their journey in Chengdu was not merely about competition; it was a vibrant celebration of youth, unity, and a shared vision for the future.

Four students awarded Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2025

Four PolyU students have been awarded the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2025, jointly sponsored by HSBC and the Innovation and Technology Commission. They are: Miss CHAN Wing Ching   BA (Hons) Scheme in Fashion Mr CHIK Long Tin  BEng in Aviation Engineering Miss LEUNG Tze Ying  BA (Hons) in English and Applied Linguistics Mr YAU Hayden  BBA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance The Scholarships offer the outstanding local undergraduates the opportunity to widen their international/Mainland exposure, gain industry experience, and nurture their passion and commitment for science and technology. It is hoped that the awardees can pursue their dreams with their innovative ideas and help create positive changes to society. Each awardee can receive up to HK$150,000 to participate in a series of PolyU initiatives, including the Overseas/ Mainland Attachment Programme, Mentorship Programme, Local Internship Programme and Service Project Programme. PolyU holds flag-raising ceremony to celebrate 28th anniversary of establishment of the HKSAR

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) today held a flag-raising ceremony on campus to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).   The University is honoured to have had Mr HUANG Jingrui, Spokesperson and Director-General of the Department of Media and Public Relations of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR; Mr LAI Jianhua, Deputy Director General of the Kowloon Sub-office of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR (LOCPG); and Mr ZHANG Guolai, Second-level Inspector of the Youth Department of LOCPG officiate at the ceremony. They were joined by PolyU Council Chairman Dr LAM Tai-fai; President Prof. Jin-Guang TENG; Deputy Council Chairman Dr Daniel YIP Chung-yin; Treasurer of the University Mr Arthur LEE Kin; Honorary Court Chairman Dr Roy CHUNG Chi-ping; and President Emeritus Prof. the Honourable POON Chung-kwong, together with Council and Court members, other University senior management, University Fellows, Outstanding Alumni, members of the PolyU Foundation, and over 700 distinguished guests, staff, students and alumni, wishing prosperity and stability for the Nation and Hong Kong. The ceremony was performed by the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team.   Dr Lam Tai-fai said, “In the 28 years since Hong Kong returned to the Motherland, the City has fully leveraged its distinctive advantages of enjoying the strong support of the Nation and being closely connected to the world. It has actively integrated into the overall national development and contributed to the Nation’s high-quality development. Five years after the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the City has transitioned from chaos to order, leaving behind turmoil and returning to stability and harmony. With public order restored, Hong Kong is now advancing from stability to prosperity.   As a member of Hong Kong’s higher education sector, PolyU is committed to serving the Nation’s needs with its own strengths, nurturing professionals and social leaders with a strong sense of national pride and a global perspective, and supporting Hong Kong’s development into an international innovation and technology centre and international hub for post-secondary education.”   Prof. Jin-Guang Teng remarked, “This year marks the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. Under the principle of ‘one country, two systems’, Hong Kong has received staunch support from the Nation and has capitalised on its unique advantage while reinforcing its connectivity with both the Mainland and the world, maintaining long-term prosperity and stability for society. Being an innovative world-class university, PolyU will continue to strive for excellence in talent development, research and knowledge transfer to contribute to the further development of Hong Kong and the nation.”

PolyU Students Shine at the 10th “Friends of Diplomacy” Summer Camp

Three students from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) recently participated in the 10th “Friends of Diplomacy” Summer Camp, held from June 1 to 9, 2025. Organised by the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong and hosted by the Hong Kong Youth & Tertiary Students Association, the camp aimed to enhance students’ understanding of international diplomacy. Lau Yat Nam from the Department of Applied Social Sciences, Chan Tsz Tung from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Law Chun Kit from the School of Accounting and Finance were selected to join 30 peers from various institutions. Their nine-day journey took them to Beijing and Indonesia, immersing them in rich cultural and diplomatic experiences. In Beijing, the PolyU students attended a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and visited the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, gaining valuable insights into China’s diplomatic framework. In Indonesia, they rode the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, visited the ASEAN Secretariat, and explored Tencent’s headquarters, learning about the intersection of technology and diplomacy while engaging with local university students. On June 11, Professor James Dai, Associate Dean of Students, attended the summary sharing session hosted by the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong. He listened to the students’ reflections on their enriching experience, highlighting the importance of such opportunities in broadening their international perspectives and fostering lasting connections across Asia.

PolyU Students at the Flag-Raising Delegation in Beijing

The inaugural tour for flag-raising delegations from universities in Hong Kong took place from June 16 to 20, 2025. Organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association and supported by the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of CPC Central Committee, the event featured flag-raising team representatives from eight universities in Hong Kong, with the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team making a remarkable participation.  A highlight of the tour was witnessing the National Flag-Raising Ceremony at Tiananmen Square, complemented by an insightful visit to the Tiananmen Square National Flag Guard. Participants observed the ceremonial routines, feeling the solemn atmosphere that left a profound impression on them. This experience deepened their understanding of the significance of safeguarding the national flag, enhancing their sense of national identity and belonging. During their visit to Beijing Language and Culture University, PolyU students engaged in exchanges with the local flag-raising team, observing their drills. The precision and discipline exhibited by their peers inspired the PolyU students, fostering a spirit of teamwork and responsibility. The tour also included visits to historical sites such as the Chinese Communist Party History Museum, the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution, the Chinese Traditional Culture Museum, the Great Wall at Juyongguan, and the Forbidden City. These enriching experiences broadened students’ horizons and deepened their appreciation for Chinese culture, igniting a passion for historical exploration and traditional values. Through this profound and emotionally resonant journey, PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team members expressed their commitment to contributing to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, vowing to transform their patriotism into action for the future of their Motherland.
