Welcome to the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. We have a long tradition of providing higher education in various disciplines related to the construction field. Organized into four departments with the distinct themes of Building Environment and Energy Engineering (BEEE), Building and Real Estate (BRE), Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), and Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI), the Faculty has about 115 full-time academic staff whose expertise spans a range of areas in sustainable urban development and smart cities, including construction, energy, environment, urban hazards mitigation, and urban informatics. Our undergraduate programmes are highly relevant for students aspiring to careers in professions like construction management, building services engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and land surveying etc. We also offer a variety of taught MSc/PgD programmes in addition to research-based PhD/MPhil programmes for those seeking professional advancement or a strong foundation on which to build an academic career. Moreover, FCE has led other Faculties and Schools of PolyU in the number of newly admitted research students being supported by the Hong Kong PhD Fellowships from 2017 to 2019.

In the 2022 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, PolyU was ranked the 66th best university in the world and the 18th best in Asia, leaping 9 and 3 spots respectively from 2021. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject for the same year, FCE was well represented with the discipline of Civil and Structural Engineering in the 15th place, Architecture/ Built Environment in the 15th place, and Environmental Sciences in the 46th place. With the financial support of major funding schemes of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, not only is our research internationally recognized, it is also making an impact in the communities that we serve. By addressing real-world problems, we hope our research will bring about practical benefits for the city of Hong Kong and beyond.

With numerous state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories, including two branches of the Chinese National Engineering Research Centers established by the State Ministry of Science and Technology and a Joint Laboratory of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for the Environment established by PolyU and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, we are well positioned to play a leading role in the field of construction and environment.
