CEE Student Received Outstanding Project Award

Congratulations to Mr Chau Ka-ho (BSc in EOSH) for receiving the Outstanding Project Award from The Hong Kong Ergonomics Society with his project titled “The Safety Effect of Audio and Visual Distraction on Professional Taxi Drivers in Hong Kong”. The project was supervised by Dr Tony Sze.

Prof. Anthony Chen won the “Best Paper Award” from the 5th Global Tourism & Hospitality Conference

Congratulations to Prof. Anthony Chen for winning the “Best Paper Award” given by the School of Hotel & Tourism Management (SHTM) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, at the 5th Global Tourism & Hospitality Conference on 12-14 June 2022.

85th Anniversary Alumni Tourcation – Exploring the Laboratories of Structural Engineering, Water and Waste

34 alumni and their friends joined the first “85A Alumni Tourcation” on 11 Jun 2022, which is jointly organised by the Alumni Affairs Office and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association (CEEAA), and supported by the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations (FHKPUAA). The group visited the Structural Engineering Research Laboratory and the Water and Waste Teaching Laboratory, where CEE staff introduced the laboratory facilities and their state-of-the-art equipment.

University Court Members Visited CEE Laboratory

After the University Court’s meeting on 1 June 2022, the members visited the University’s environment, sustainability and carbon neutrality-related facilities.  Prof. C.S. Poon, Head of Department, introduced the laboratory and activities regarding low carbon construction materials at RCRE (Research Centre for Resources Engineering towards Carbon Neutrality).

New joiner - Dr Michael C.W. Chan

Dr Michael CW Chan received his B.Eng. (Hons) degree in 2015 and Ph.D degree in 2020, both from the University of Wollongong, Australia. He then joined PolyU as a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2020 to 2022. Dr Chan’s research focus is on FRP composite, FRP-steel-concrete composite structures, non-linear finite element modelling and constitutive models for rubber concrete. During his Ph.D study, Dr Chan examined the structural behaviour of composite columns and developed theoretical models of various levels of complexity for different purposes, ranging from three-dimensional finite element models of novel composite columns to one-dimensional design-oriented models of concrete. His Ph.D dissertation was awarded the “Examiners’ Commendation for Outstanding Thesis”, and he was the sole awardee of 2020 in the School of Civil, Mining and Environmental Engineering. Dr Chan has joined us on 1 June 2022.

CEE Alumni Selected as One of the 2022 “Women in Sustainability Leadership”

Congratulations to Ms Grace Kwok, Chairman & Executive Director of Allied Sustainability and Environmental Consultants Group Limited, for being selected as one of the 2022 “Women in Sustainability Leadership” announced by the Women in Sustainability Leadership Awards Alumnae Group.  The award is granted to influential women trailblazers who have become a powerful force in the profession of creating a more sustainable world.   Grace obtained the BEng (Hons) Environmental Engineering in PolyU and has over 20 years' experiences in acoustics, environmental and sustainability consultancy.  She keeps close connection with CEE and contributes to the Department by serving in our Departmental Advisory Committee and providing different opportunities to our students.

Prof. Zhu Songye and Prof. Dai Jian-guo Won HKIE Structural Excellence Awards 2022

Organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Structural Division, the Structural Excellence Award aims at promoting excellence in structural engineering through design and construction of buildings / infrastructures and research and application.    Congratulations to Prof. Zhu Songye, Professor, and Prof. Dai Jian-guo, Associate Head (Academic Development), for receiving the Grand Award and Commendation Merit of the HKIE Structural Excellence Award 2022.
