PolyU Summer Institute 2025
This August, the PolyU Summer Institute 2025 welcomed enthusiastic students from Secondary 4 and Secondary 5 to an immersive university experience at PolyU. Over several days, participants engaged in a vibrant array of activities led by PolyU student leaders, offering a firsthand glimpse into campus life and academic exploration.
Students took part in day-long attachment programmes and company visits, gaining valuable insights into various industries and career pathways. One of the highlights was an AI workshop prepared by the Department of Computing (COMP), where Dr Alexander Lam, COMP Teaching Fellow, guided students through the fascinating world of artificial intelligence.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of AI and machine learning, learning how these technologies analyse data and solve real-world problems. The session covered key concepts, including large language models and natural language processing, and students had the opportunity to experiment with interactive tools to build and train simple models. This hands-on experience helped demystify AI, showing how it makes predictions and improves over time, and demonstrating its practical applications in everyday life.
The PolyU Summer Institute 2025 provided an inspiring platform for young learners to discover new interests, develop essential skills, and envision their future in a dynamic university environment. We look forward to welcoming even more bright minds next year!
