UG and TPg Orientation Sessions 2025
Undergraduate Orientation Session
COMP successfully held the Undergraduate Orientation Session on 22 August 2025, welcoming a new cohort of enthusiastic freshmen to the COMP family.
The event began with a warm welcome speech by Prof. Raymond SZE, Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning), who encouraged students to make the most of their university experience. This was followed by a video welcome address from Prof. LI Qing, Chair Professor of Data Science and Head of Department, who shared the Department’s vision and support for the incoming students.
Prof. YIU Man Lung Ken, Scheme Leader, Professor and Associate Head (Teaching and Learning), provided an overview of learning at COMP and introduced the academic advising system, equipping students with essential information for their studies. Year 1 subject lecturers also introduced themselves, helping students become familiar with the teaching team and the courses ahead.
After the formal presentations, students were grouped with their teachers and fellow classmates for consultation and free discussion. Through a series of interactive team-building games, the freshmen had the opportunity to learn more about the University and the Department, while building new friendships in a relaxed and engaging environment.
Taught Postgraduate Orientation Session
The Taught Postgraduate Orientation Session on 30 August 2025, welcomed new students to its MSc programmes and provided them with essential information for a successful academic journey.
The session began with a video welcome speech by Prof. LI Qing, who shared his encouragement and best wishes with the incoming students. Prof. YIU Man Lung Ken then delivered a warm welcome address, setting a positive tone for the event.
Programme Leaders for each MSc programme—Prof. CAO Yixin (MScIT), Prof. LUO Xiapu Daniel (MSc BT), and Prof. NG Hiu Fung Peter (MSc MT)—provided detailed introductions to their respective programmes. They discussed the curriculum, study patterns, and unique features of each programme, ensuring that students had a clear understanding of their academic pathways.
For participants interested in pursuing research after graduation, the MSc Thesis Coordinator, Prof. WANG Qixin, provided valuable information on selecting dissertations and projects.
The Orientation Session offered an excellent platform for new postgraduate students to connect with faculty, alumni, and peers, and to gain insights into both academic and research opportunities at COMP. The Department looks forward to supporting the new students as they embark on their postgraduate studies and future careers.
