Preparation for Subject Registration

Students are responsible for their own studies at the University and are required to review the programme requirement documents and register for subjects accordingly to fulfill graduation requirements. It is advisable to seek academic advice from your Programme Leader or Academic Advisor and to familiarize yourself with the academic regulations before registration.
Before registering for subjects each semester, please check the following information via eStudent, starting from the release of the class timetable for that semester:

•             Subjects pre-assigned to you by your department, if any (Study Information)

•             Your personal class timetable (My Class Timetable)

•             Your earliest commencing time (i.e. start time) for online subject registration (Personal Checklist)

•             Subject details and class timetables (Subject Search / EasyPlanner)
Students can try the "Mock Subject Registration" to familiarize themselves with the subject registration procedures. All subjects you have selected during Mock Subject Registration will NOT be carried forth to your actual online subject registration.
Students of Higher Diploma and Bachelor's Degree programmes should visit the website of the Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS) to obtain the latest information about the General University Requirements (GUR). Students are reminded to check if they have taken the required Cluster Area Requirements (CAR) subjects to fulfill the graduation requirements and register for any necessary CAR subjects that have not yet been completed.

Students on academic probation are required to take a reduced study load, as determined by their departments, during the probation period to help improve their academic performance. They should complete the form titled 'Study Load for Students on Academic Probation' (Form AR150), indicate their proposed study plans, and take the initiative to seek advice from Academic Advisors within one week of the announcement of assessment results to confirm their subject registration for the upcoming semester.

During Subject Registration

You are reminded to check whether you have completed the required compulsory and core subjects to fulfill your graduation requirements. Please refer to your programme requirement document for details regarding these requirements.

Generally speaking, the credits you earn should be proportional to the number of years you have studied in the programme. For example, if the duration of your programme is four years and you have already completed two years of study, you should have earned half of the credits required for graduation. If you fall short of the credits based on this estimation, you may want to register for more subjects to catch up on your study progress whenever possible.
Select the desired subject(s) and add them to your subject shopping cart. Then, press the ‘Proceed to Preview’ button followed by the ‘Confirm’ button to finalise your selection. If you do not complete this process, the selected subjects will not be recorded.
For subjects that have been pre-assigned/registered to you by your Department, you are not required to confirm again via eStudent. Please check the class timetable and attend the classes accordingly.

Prior approval is required to drop a pre-assigned/registered subject for students enrolled in Higher Diploma and Bachelor's Degree programmes. You have to seek academic advice from your Academic Advisor/Programme Leader if you have genuine needs to drop these subjects.

If a class is full but open for enrollment on a waitlist, as indicated by the subject offering Department, you will be automatically placed on the waitlist for that subject when you confirm your subject selection. A real-time waitlist position will be displayed for your reference. When a vacancy becomes available, students on the waitlist will be registered automatically based on their position. You will receive an email notification upon successful registration for a waitlisted subject. For further details, please refer to FAQ > waitlisting function.

After Subject Registration

A reference number will be generated once you have successfully completed your subject registration. Please send us an email at ar.subreg@polyu.edu.hk immediately if you are not given any reference number.
If you wish to make changes to your subject registration after the Subject Registration Period, please do so during the Adjustment before Semester Commencement Period and/or the Add/Drop Period (after Semester commencement).
Students are not allowed to drop any subjects after the Add/Drop Period. If you have a genuine need to withdraw from a subject after the Add/Drop Period, please refer to Section 5G 'Withdrawal of Subjects' of the Student Handbook for details.
Students of Higher Diploma and Bachelor's Degree programmes can access the Reference Checklist via eStudent > My Profile > Study Information > Reference Checklist (Subjects Taken vs Your Graduation Requirements). Please read through the section Points to Note at the end of the checklist for detailed explanations of the displayed information. You should always refer to the relevant Programme Requirement Document(s) for the detailed subjects/credits requirements of your programme(s) and are advised to contact your programme offering department(s) as soon as possible if you have identified any discrepancies between the programme requirement document(s) and the checklist, so that rectifications can be applied to the system settings on your graduation requirements, where appropriate.

Points to Note

Students should study the Student Handbook for regulations governing their studies and registration at the University. Subject registration record(s) that violate the University regulations will be removed after the Add/Drop Period.
