Biography
Prof. Vincent CHENG earned his PhD in Sociology and Criminology from The University of Hong Kong. His current research interest lies in two fields: (1) The experience and well-being of marginalised populations, with a particular focus on older people who commit crime, older people suffering from substance use disorder, and people who use drugs in the workplace, (2) The impact of health promotion advertisements to audiences. He is also interested in social marginalisation, crime, and punishment in local and Mainland Chinese contexts.
Prof. Cheng has published in international journals like Punishment and Society, Child & Family Social Work, International Journal of Qualitative Methods, International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy, Journal of Drug Issues, Asian Journal of Law and Society, and China Journal of Social Work. His book, Hypocrisy: The Tales and Realities of Drug Detainees in China, receives an Honorable Mention in the 2020 ACS Distinguished Book Award of the Asian Criminology Society.
