【PolyU Alumni Week】Alumni Connect – Central

As one of the highlights of “PolyU Alumni Week”, the 5th “Alumni Connect” brought together more than 50 alumni in Central on 27 August 2026 for a lunchtime gathering that fostered cross-generational connections. Held in Hong Kong’s premier business district, the gathering welcomed graduates from a wide range of graduating classes, from the 1960s and 1970s to recent years, adding to the diversity and vibrancy of the occasion. 【PolyU Alumni Week】Between the Lines and the Vines – Hidden Gems of China’s Wineries

On 25 August 2026, the Alumni Foodie Club and the Alumni Reading Club jointly organised “Between the Lines and the Vines – Hidden Gems of China’s Wineries” under the banner of “PolyU Alumni Week”. Featuring Chinese wines and traditional Shunde cuisine, the evening attracted over 60 alumni and guests for wine pairing and literary sharing. The event welcomed Mr Houghton Lee, wine expert and author of The Vineyards of Greater China, as the guest speaker. Mr Lee introduced the development of China’s wine industry and guided participants through the characteristics and flavours of selections from different wine-producing regions across the country. He also shared a range of related reads, offering insights into wine culture through the lens of literature. During the dinner, Mr Lee provided detailed explanations of how Shunde delicacies complemented the featured Chinese labels, creating a harmonious interplay of food and wine. The event offered alumni an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Chinese wine culture while savouring exquisite cuisine and making meaningful connections. 【PolyU Alumni Week】Living x Innovation: Alumni Entrepreneurs Talk

On 24 August 2026, “Living x Innovation: Alumni Entrepreneurs Talk”, the first thematic talk of “PolyU Alumni Week”, was held in hybrid format at the Senate Room on campus and online, attracting more than 100 participants. Prof. Cheung Leong, Vice President (Administration and Development) of PolyU, attended the event in person. He welcomed all participants and shared the University’s latest achievements, encouraging alumni to actively exchange ideas and apply what they learned to their entrepreneurial endeavours. Themed around clothing, food, living and mobility, the event featured the experiences of four alumni entrepreneurs in building their ventures. Prof. Joanne Yip, Associate Dean and Professor of PolyU’s School of Fashion and Textiles, spoke about her decade-long commitment to developing wearable technology to improve the treatment of adolescent scoliosis, as well as the fulfilment she has found in translating research into practical applications that benefit patients. Mr Zhang Quan, Founder and CEO of Twelve Flavors, recounted how his entrepreneurial journey grew out of his passion; apart from identifying trends and market needs to expand his business, he has also led his team in strengthening its innovation and operational capabilities for long-term development. Dr Abraham Lam Hang-yat, Director of MEGA Automation Limited, discussed how he uses property technology to address everyday challenges; with support from PolyU, his smart building system has gained recognition from the industry and the community, enabling the business to expand into the Greater Bay Area. Dr Jason Cheung Tak-man, Principal Research Fellow of the Research Institute for Sports Science and Technology of PolyU, reflected that his path to innovation began with his interest and has been sustained by perseverance; the sports technology products developed by his team enhance the performance of elite athletes while promoting foot health among the general public. The panel discussion was moderated by Ms Yvonne Li, Director of Alumni Affairs of PolyU. The four speakers’ sharing inspired participants, who raised questions on a range of topics, including overcoming adversity, securing new funding, formulating sales strategies, and developing leadership. The discussion also highlighted the importance of business models, effective division of labour, self-management, and adaptability to change. After the event, many alumni stayed behind to continue the discussion and visit the showcase presented by the speakers, where they experienced the innovations first-hand and gained further insights. 【PolyU Alumni Week】Past Meets Plate: Walled City and Chiu Chow Culture Journey

Organised by the Alumni Culture and Heritage Tours Club, the Alumni Foodie Club, and the Alumni Photography and Films Club, “Past Meets Plate: Walled City and Chiu Chow Culture Journey” marked the first event of “PolyU Alumni Week”. The outing brought together 90 alumni, family members, and friends in Kowloon City to explore the district’s rich history, distinctive culture, and culinary traditions. During the tour, participants learned about the history of the former Kowloon Walled City and experienced the community’s character and transformation through visits to Stone Houses Family Garden, Hau Wong Temple, and other landmarks. The group also visited the “Kowloon Walled City: A Cinematic Journey” Movie Set Exhibition, where they viewed meticulously recreated scenes up close and revisited iconic moments from Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. The journey concluded with a traditional Chiu Chow lunch at the time-honoured Lok Hau Fook Restaurant. The restaurant’s third-generation successor shared its history and interesting anecdotes about its role as a filming location for various movies. Amid laughter and lively conversation, participants savoured authentic Chiu Chow delicacies while exchanging updates and stories, setting the stage for a vibrant start to Alumni Week. 【Alumni Badminton Club】Badminton Skills Workshop

On 16 August 2026, more than 40 alumni took part in the Badminton Skills Workshop organised by the Alumni Badminton Club.  The workshop featured two sessions tailored to different skill levels: one for beginners and another for intermediate players. Led by two professional coaches, both sessions offered practical guidance and hands-on training in the fundamental rules, footwork, racket handling, strokes, court movement, as well as strategies for improving overall gameplay. Beyond developing their badminton skills, alumni had the opportunity to connect with one another and forge new friendships in a fun, active environment. Many of them described the workshop as both enjoyable and insightful.

【Alumni Interest Clubs】Film Screening of “Dear You” for Higher Education Institutions and Qiaopi Exhibition Opening Ceremony

With the recent buzz surrounding the film “Dear You”, its narrative thread, qiaopi (remittance letters sent by overseas Chinese to their hometowns, often combining personal correspondence with remittance receipts), has once again captured public attention. On 11 August 2026, alumni returned to campus for a screening of “Dear You”, gaining a deeper understanding of qiaopi culture and the history of overseas Chinese communities through the film. Earlier this month, on 2 August 2026, the Alumni Culture and Heritage Tours Club and the Alumni Photography and Films Club jointly invited alumni to attend the opening ceremony of a qiaopi exhibition sponsored by alumnus Mr Michael Tsang. Featuring precious qiaopi artefacts and historical archives, the exhibition offered participants a closer look at the stories behind these “letters and remittances”, and the deep sense of home and country they embodied. 【Alumni Running and Jogging Club】PolyU Running and Training Programme Kick-off Ceremony

The PolyU Running and Training Programme officially kicked off on 3 August 2026, welcoming more than 80 participants, including senior management, alumni, students and staff, as they embarked on a 12-week running journey. At the Kick-off Ceremony, participants were warmly welcomed by President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng. Prof. Cheung Leong, Vice President (Administration and Development), and Ms Wang Junxia, gold medallist in the women’s 5,000m at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and Head Coach of the PolyU Social Run Team, also shared encouraging remarks. The programme is spearheaded by Dr Laura Lo, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement), whose vision helped unite the PolyU community through a shared passion for sports and well-being. Following the ceremony, participants joined the first session of the “4+8” Training & Running Programme and Social Run, where professional coaches from RunOurCity introduced fundamental techniques and training concepts. In this 12-week programme, we look forward to participants developing their skills and endurance while strengthening connections across the University community. 【Alumni Foodie Club】An Izakaya Evening – Exploring the Harmony of Sake and Washoku

On 30 July 2026, over 60 alumni and guests gathered for an engaging evening of Japanese cuisine, sake appreciation, and alumni bonding. During the event, sake expert Ms Laura Wong led a sake-pairing session, introducing a selection of sake from different regions and sharing the characteristics and stories behind each one. Participants gained a deeper appreciation of sake culture and the harmonious pairing of sake and washoku. They enjoyed exquisite food and drinks while catching up with one another, and many also took the opportunity to make plans for future alumni activities together. The gathering was also graced by Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), who joined alumni in sharing the enjoyment of the evening. Alumni Connect - Mong Kok

“Alumni Connect” arrived in Mong Kok on 15 July 2026, bringing together 40 alumni for a casual lunchtime gathering in the heart of one of Hong Kong’s liveliest districts. Set against the neighbourhood’s vibrant energy, the event provided a welcoming space for alumni to catch up with fellow graduates, meet new faces, and renew their ties with the PolyU community.
