“With my personal transformation and the meaningful connections I have cultivated, I aspire to become a beacon of inspiration, encouraging others to embrace their passions and contribute to positive societal changes,” said Wong Sze-lam from the Faculty of Construction and Environment, who just won the Most Outstanding Student Award 2023.

Sze-lam, a final-year student of the BSc in Property Management programme in the Department of Building and Real Estate, was also a PolyU Student Ambassador and participated in various academic and extracurricular activities. In her opinion, the dynamic and nurturing environment of PolyU played a pivotal role in catalysing her personal transformation. She plans to further her studies and engage in research to address pressing societal issues.

Meanwhile, the President’s Distinguished Student Leadership Award 2023 went to Wang Yanze from the Faculty of Engineering. He is studying for the BEng in Internet-of-Things with a Secondary major in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics. He expressed his appreciation to PolyU for cultivating an environment conducive to holistic education and fostering leadership development and a service ethos.

In his words, “PolyU has motivated me to lead in team collaborations across various disciplines. It has enabled me to achieve excellent academic performance while strengthening my communication skills and teamwork.” Yanze plans to conduct research on radio-frequency integrated circuits in the Undergraduate Research and Innovation Scheme and to lead his team in translating research results into entrepreneurship.

PolyU organises the Outstanding Students Award Scheme to recognise full-time final-year undergraduates who have demonstrated academic excellence, strong leadership abilities, active participation in extracurricular activities, extensive community service, and positive personal traits. The Presidential Student Leadership Award was presented to honour students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership performance and qualities at PolyU and in the wider community, good academic achievement, strong communication skills, and a clear commitment to serving society.

This year, the University had 28 students receiving the Outstanding Student Award and 27 students receiving the Presidential Student Leadership Award, and the presentation ceremony was held in March.
