PolyU PhD Student Receives Best Paper Award at ICASS 2025 and ISICT 2025; Postdoctoral Fellow Also Earns Award at Joint Conference

Ms OUYANG Wenjing, a PhD student from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at PolyU, received the Best Student Paper Award at the joint 12th International Conference on Advances in Steel Structures (ICASS 2025) and the 4th International Symposium on Industrialized Construction Technology (ISICT 2025), held in Singapore from 9 to 12 December 2025. Her research in structural engineering is conducted under the supervision of Ir Prof. LIU Siwei, Assistant Professor in the same department.
Ms OUYANG presented her paper titled “Efficient Nonlinear Analysis of Glass Panes under Variable Lateral Loads with Physics-Informed Deep Operator Networks”. This research introduces a Physics-Informed Deep Operator Network (PI-DeepONet) framework that integrates operator learning with physical constraints to solve the Föppl-von Kármán equations efficiently. The proposed approach significantly reduces data dependency while maintaining robust generalisation to unseen loading scenarios.
Dr CHEN Liang, a Postdoctoral Fellow from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, also received the Best Paper Award for Application at the same conference under the supervision of Ir Prof. LIU. Dr CHEN delivered his paper titled “Structural Design of the First 3D-Printed Metal Steel Structure in Asia by Second-order Direct Analysis”.

ICASS is a distinguished international conference series organised worldwide every two years, providing a forum for researchers and professionals to discuss and disseminate recent advances in the analysis, behaviour, design, and construction of steel, aluminium, and composite steel-concrete structures. ISICT is an international symposium series dedicated to recent advances in construction technology and building industrialisation. This joint conference, organised by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore, gathered scholars and experts from around the world for in-depth academic exchanges and discussions on innovative technologies in structural engineering.
