Prof. Yozo Fujino was invited to deliver a seminar on “Infrastructure maintenance, renovation and management - R&D governmental program in Japan” to CEE research personnel and alumni on 18 May 2021. Prof. Fujino shared inspiring visions of research in Civil Engineering and introduced the latest research and development programme in Japan’s infrastructure.

Dr Zhen Leng Elected as Vice President of APSE Executive Board

The Board of Governors of Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering (APSE) announced on 7 May 2021 that Dr Zhen Leng, Associate Professor of CEE, had been elected as the Vice President of the 2021-2023 Executive Board, who will move as the President in the next term. The election results were based on voting by all academic members of APSE around the world.  APSE is a leading international community of academics involved in teaching and research related to pavement science and engineering, which has close connections with universities around the world and a strong influence within the field of pavement engineering (www.pavements.academy).

OSH Best Project Award

Congratulations to two CEE students for receiving Best Project Award from Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC) on 19 April 2021. They are Dr Tiantian Chen (PhD) with her dissertation titled “Safety of professional drivers in Hong Kong” and Mr Chau Ka-ho (BSc in EOSH) with his FYP titled “Safety effect of visual & audio distraction on taxi drivers”. Their project advisors were Dr Tony Sze.

Congratulations on Winning Student Group Champion in Smart Transportation Challenge!

Congratulations to the team “Impulso” for receiving Student Group Champion in the Smart Transportation Challenge organized by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) on 9 March 2021. The team consists of four PolyU undergraduate students: Rama Adiputra (Year 3 of BEng in Civil Engineering), Lance Edric Lou Pua (Year 2 of BEng in Civil Engineering), Jason Marcelino (Year 3 of BEng in Aviation Engineering), and Geraldi Edbert (Year 2 of BEng in Electrical Engineering). The competition aims to create innovative solutions to improve the traffic conditions in Hong Kong Science Park. Dr Peng Wang Elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC)

Congratulation to Dr Peng Wang, Ph.D., Associate Professor, on being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). The designation Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) is given to elected Fellows who have made significant contributions to the chemical sciences. The names of newly elected Fellows are published each year in The Times (London).

2020 Higher Education Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award (Science and Technology)

Congratulations to Prof. William Hing-Keung Lam on receiving the 2020 Higher Education Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award (Science and Technology) - Natural Science Award Second Prize (2020年度高等學校科學研究優秀成果獎（科學技術）- 自然科學獎二等獎) by the Ministry of Education of China. It recognizes the excellence of his research project regarding “New mechanisms for investment decisions of transportation infrastructure(交通基礎設施投資決策新機制)”.

Prof. Anthony Chen’s Paper Published in Transport Policy

Prof. Anthony Chen’s team conducted a preliminary analysis to examine the relationship between COVID-19, community response, public response, public policy and travel pattern in Hong Kong.  Results from time-series analysis demonstrate a high response capability of local government and communities to epidemiological situation. The findings can help to inform and reshape future transport policy and response strategies to mitigate the pandemic. CEE Environmental Engineering Webinar Series in April

The last seminar of CEE Environmental Engineering Webinar Series was successfully held on 13 April 2021.  Dr Yi Jiang delivered a seminar with the topic of “Scalable Application of Functional Engineered Nanomaterials in Water Treatment Membranes: A Tale of Two Strategies”. Participants have gained a better understanding on water treatment technologies. Our MSc EME Programme is still open for application.
