PolyU x NuttyShell Cybersecurity CTF 2024 Prize Presentation Ceremony

The PolyU x NuttyShell Cybersecurity CTF 2024 Prize Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 29 May 2024, Wednesday, with over 80 participants and honourable guests, including Mr David Cheung, the Assistant Government Chief Information Officer (Cyber Security & Digital Identity) of OGCIO. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Kwok-yin Wong, Vice President (Education) of PolyU, and Prof. Chi-yung Chung, Head of the EEE Department, making it a truly memorable occasion. As the only institution offering the UGC-funded programme “BSc(Hons) Degree in Information Security” in cybersecurity, PolyU, EEE and NuttyShell team organised the Cybersecurity CTF 2024 contest this year. With over 100 participants joining the contest from different schools and colleges, it is a pleasure to witness the growth of the cybersecurity community and the interests among youngsters in Hong Kong. During the prize ceremony, we received valuable insights on the ever-evolving AI and IT industry. We hope that the event can provide students with a unique experience and foster their passion in cybersecurity.

This talk will introduce key technologies enabling optical interconnects up to 1.6Tbit/s, including advances in opto-electronic devices, digital signal processing and packaging. Future technology trends will also be discussed.   Speaker’s Bio:Dr. Zhong Kangping is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Zhong has more than a decade of solid experience in both academia and industry, particularly in the fields of fiber communication systems and associated electronics, optical coherent communications, short reach systems, advanced digital signal processing and its hardware implementation. He is also an expert in optical module, optoelectronic device, silicon photonics, hybrid integrated PIC and high-speed electronic IC, such as CDR chip, TIA, driver and coherent and PAM4 DSP ASIC. Dr. Zhong has published over 100 papers (citation2400+) in top-tier journals and international conferences including one book chapter, three ESI high citation papers (top 1% most-cited paper), one invited talk in the signature conference OFC 2017 and one top scored paper in OFC 2019. He has been ranked among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists in the released metrics compiled by Stanford University in 2021&2022. Pre-mentorship event for the first-year students 2023-24

The pre-mentorship event for the first-year students was held by the Department at the campus on 11 May 2024 with the support of nearly 50 participants, including students, academic staff, and alumni. The event aims to provide students a more detailed descriptions of different career paths. The EEE alumni and teachers shared their precious experiences in various engineering fields with our students and interacted with them in a delightful atmosphere during the activity.

Seminar on "Analysis, Synthesis and Learning of Network-Inspired Systems" by Dr Lin Lin

Date: 10 May 2024, Friday Time: 4:30pm Venue: YEUNG Y5-203, City University of Hong Kong Zoom Meeting ID: 955 7075 2299 Password: 123456 Speaker: Dr Lin Lin, City University of Hong Kong   Analysis, Synthesis and Learning of Network-Inspired Systems Dr Lin Lin, City University of Hong Kong   Abstract: This seminar will discuss the analysis, synthesis and learning problems for several classes of network-inspired finite-valued systems, including finite-field networks, Boolean networks, logical dynamic systems, and Markov chains. They are effective models to describe agents operating under realistic circumstances with limited capacities for storing, processing and transmitting information. To tackle the challenges posed by high computational complexity and large memory storage, the present investigation is concerned with several approaches, such as establishing a quotient/bisimulation-based scale reduction method, designing optimal triggering control strategy, exploring network structure information, leveraging data structure storage, employing graph-theoretical algorithms, and incorporating reinforcement learning techniques.   Speaker’s Bio:Dr. Lin Lin is currently a Post-Doc Fellow at the Department of Electrical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong. She received her Ph.D. degree in Engineering from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Hong Kong in 2024. She was a visiting research student at the University of Adelaide, King’s College London, and Hokkaido University in Oct.-Dec. 2022, May-Jul. 2023, and Feb. 2024, respectively. Her research interests include networked collective intelligence, Markov chains, control theory, and reinforcement learning. Dr. Lin was a finalist for the Lotfi Zadeh Best Paper Award at the 22nd International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics in 2023.
