Dr Xihua Sheng is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Before that, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Computer Science at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He received the B.S. degree in Automation from Northeastern University (NEU), Shenyang, China, in 2019, and the Ph.D. degree in Information Communication and Engineering from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, Anhui, China, in 2024. His research interests include image and video coding, processing, and visual intelligence. He has authored or co-authored more than 20 papers in international journals and conferences. He serves as a software coordinator of AVS End-to-End Video Coding Exploration Model and has authored over 10 adopted standardization proposals. He received the ACM China SIGMM Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis 2025. He received the top performance award of ISCAS 2023 & VCIP 2023 Grand Challenge on Neural Network-based Video Coding.
