It is an honour for me to receive the CEE Entry Scholarship for Outstanding HKDSE Students. I’d like to use this opportunity to reflect on the journey that brought me here.

Studying geography in secondary school made me appreciate the immense societal value of civil engineers and their extensive contributions towards Hong Kong. Apart from constructing buildings, they are also responsible for saving lives by designing safety standards and measures. Seeing the work of civil engineers and their beneficiary effects on communities, I feel inspired and believe that it aligns with my dream of contributing to society. This was the driving factor behind my decision to choose CEE.

When I formulated my JUPAS choices, I already had a few options in mind. Among those options, CEE demonstrated its excellence in the academic field by obtaining top-tier positions in many global rankings.  Along with a world-class team of teaching staff, innovative research laboratories and comprehensive curriculum, I was convinced that I would receive a world-class education, with opportunities to gain hands-on industry experience to apply knowledge.

As a freshman at PolyU, I’ve engaged with the diverse student population and made friends from different backgrounds. These experiences broadened my social circle and made me discover that maintaining an open mind is essential to adapting to the new learning culture in university.

This scholarship is a springboard to greater achievements both for me and CEE, and I will be sure to use this opportunity at PolyU to “learn and apply, for the benefit of mankind”.
