Dr. Elaine Kwong


Dr. Elaine Kwong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She was professionally trained to be a speech therapist, and specializes in managing adult and pediatric voice disorders. Given her background as a clinician, her research interest concerns closely about different therapeutic and preventive approaches for voice disorders. They include Complementary and Alterantive Medicines like acupuncture and traditionally used techniques like semi-occluded vocal tract exercises. Dr. Kwong is also interested in studying the mechanisms and physiology of phonation. In recent years, she extends her research interests to swallowing disorders. She is particularly interested in diet modification that aims to improve swallowing safety and quality of life of dysphagic individuals.
