Mr. Jason Kan, Assistant Professor of Practice

Mr. Jason Kan is currently Assistant Professor of Practice of the Speech Therapy Unit in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences from The University of Hong Kong and was qualified as a speech therapist. He later received his Master of Science in Management (Public Sector Management) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Mr. Kan has extensive clinical and teaching experience. He began his clinical career at special schools serving children with intellectual disability and later worked with a non-governmental organization where he specialized in aural rehabilitation for children and adults with hearing impairment. He had also held various positions in public hospital and private organizations, providing services to clients with a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders.

 

Mr. Kan is an experienced clinical educator and he had taught at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Education University of Hong Kong prior to joining PolyU. He had also been invited by other higher education institutions to deliver lectures on his areas of expertise, including hearing impairment, language disorders, and anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing. Mr. Kan currently focuses on clinical speech therapy education, supervising student speech therapists’ clinical practicum. His recent research focus is on experiences of deaf or hard of hearing adults in different communication modes.

 

Mr. Kan is a Full Member of The Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists.

Mr. Kan is fluent in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin.
