The Advisory Committee System of the University facilitates the University's collaboration with industry, commerce, Government and education. The Departmental/School/College Advisory Committee plays an important role as an interface between the academic staff of the University and these sectors and the community at large. The Advisory Committees are formed to give advice on the scope and nature of the University’s academic programmes, research and other activities in order to relate them to the needs of Hong Kong. The College Advisory Committee also contributes to the strategic direction and development of the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE).

Each Advisory Committee comprises academics from the Department/School concerned (or CPCE in the case of the College Advisory Committee) and personnel from the professions. It is chaired by a person external to the University with experience and expertise in the area(s) of work of the Department/School concerned/CPCE appointed by the President with delegated authority from the Council.
