Secondary Major in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (54439-XIE)

Programme Overview

 

Students enrolled in the BA (Hons) Scheme in Applied Social Sciences (54439) may opt for Major in Social Policy and Social Entrepreneurship with a Secondary Major in Innovation and Entrepreneurship by the end of year one study. This 36-credit programme complements discipline-specific knowledge with the practical skills necessary to succeed as innovators in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and internationally.

 

Curriculum Structure

 

The Secondary Major fosters a cross-disciplinary spirit of innovation, equipping students to commercialize technologies and solve complex problems. Key components include:

  • A wide range of foundation subjects
  • A GBA Immersion Programme
  • Field Studies in Innovation Ecosystems
  • A minimum 9-month Company Attachment

 

Award Details

 

Successful completion leads to the award of "BA (Hons) in Social Policy and Social Entrepreneurship with a Secondary Major in Innovation and Entrepreneurship". Students are expected to complete the combined requirements within the normal study duration of the Primary Major.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this Secondary Major, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Develop an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset in exploring a business solution;
  2. Critically assess business environments, as well as identify opportunities and innovative ideas with the support of professional-specific skills and knowledge;
  3. Demonstrate an understanding on the applications and implications of the latest technologies to inform or support entrepreneurship and innovation;
  4. Align the resources and interests of different stakeholders in the knowledge transfer process through effective communication;
  5. Identify and respond appropriately to ethical issues as they arise in different business settings.

Entrance Requirements

To be eligible for a Secondary Major, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.70 or above at the time of application for Secondary Major enrolment.

 

The Secondary Major application period normally begins after the announcement of overall results for Semester Two of Year One. Your CGPA at the end of Semester Two of Year One will be used to determine your eligibility. If you are interested in pursuing a Secondary Major, please submit your application via eStudent > Application Forms > (AR164) Application for Major/Secondary Major/Double Major during the designated application period.
