Biography
Dr WONG is a Lecturer in the Department of Applied Social Sciences, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He currently serves as Programme Leader of the Master of Applied Psychology and the Master of Applied Psychology (Specialism in Diverse Learning Needs). His speciality and research interests cover children and young people with special educational needs (SEN), assessment and intervention for dyslexia and mathematical learning difficulties, and psychometric test development.
Dr WONG demonstrates a sustained commitment to evidence-based practice and innovative approaches to supporting children and families with diverse learning needs. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he has secured competitive research funding from governmental and non-governmental sources. Since 2023, he has been a Co-Investigator of JC Project Bonfire (https://jcbonfire.hk/en/), a multi-year trust-initiated project co-created and funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust that supports children and young people in residential child care services to build positive life trajectories. He has also collaborated with the Research Centre for Gerontology and Family Studies (RCGFS) to develop a new ERB course that provides a professional entry route for the residential childcare workforce. He is a Co-Investigator on a General Research Fund project investigating immersive, gamified, virtual reality-based training to enhance social skills in children with ADHD. His research portfolio further includes a project funded by the Student Affairs Office of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on implementing Universal Design for Learning for students with SEN at PolyU.
