Biography

Dr Keith WONG’s academic career began at the Department of Social Work & Social Administration, The University of Hong Kong, where he taught in the Master of Social Sciences (Counselling) programme, and contributed to student development as Senior Resident Tutor at Suen Chi Sun Hall of HKU. He then furthered his pedagogical development by various teaching engagements in social work and psychology, and fieldwork supervision in counselling and psychotherapy in Hong Kong, as well as at the University of Saint Joseph, Macau. Apart from academic teaching, Dr WONG has acquired the professional qualification as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California, USA, and also a Registered Social Worker in Hong Kong, following his completion of the Master of Social Welfare (Community Mental Health) at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr WONG has accumulated extensive clinical experience in the San Francisco Bay Area, demonstrating a wide spectrum of practice that ranges from inpatient psychiatric social work at San Francisco General Hospital, to community-based system of care in mental rehabilitation, and onto behavioural health outpatient clinical work at the Department of Public Health, City & County of San Francisco. Prior to joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr WONG demonstrates track record of executive leadership in community mental health at local NGOs, enriching high quality service provision and territory-wide mental health promotion, by means of corporate governance, strategic planning, risk management, quality assurance, and organization resilience, in collaborative partnerships with government departments (e.g. Social Welfare Department), philanthropy organizations (e.g. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust), international education institutes (e.g. Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health), as well as patient self-help groups and family caregivers. Dr WONG has obtained a qualification of Executive Education on Adaptive Leadership, as authorised by the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Recognised as seasonal executive leader and innovative educator, Dr WONG emphasises the importance of ethically-sound, culturally-sensitive, and strengths-based social work practice in empowering the underprivileged, building capacity for professionals, and educating the younger generations.
