MoU between Department of Applied Social Sciences at PolyU and School of Sociology and Anthropology at Xiamen University
On 2 October 2025, the Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS) at PolyU and the School of Sociology and Anthropology at Xiamen University celebrated a significant milestone after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed. The ceremony commenced with welcoming speeches delivered by Dr Laura LO, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement) of PolyU, and Prof. Yanhua DENG, Dean of the School of Sociology and Anthropology at Xiamen University.
This MoU outlined collaborative research projects, student and faculty exchanges, joint academic programmes, and other future collaborations. To commemorate this special occasion, Prof. Eric CHUI, Chair Professor of Social Work and Criminology, Head of APSS and Co-Director of the Policy Research Centre for Innovation and Technology at PolyU along with Prof. Yanhua DENG, marked the moment in the presence of Prof. David SHUM, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (FHSS) at PolyU, and Prof. Aitang WEI from the Department of Social Work of the School of Sociology and Anthropology at Xiamen University.
The ceremony concluded with expressions of gratitude, signalling the beginning of a fruitful collaboration and a strengthened friendship between two academic institutions. Subsequent to the ceremony, various topics such as the possibility of offering a joint/dual Doctor of Social Work (DSW) programme, forming a research cluster in the area of mental health and medical social work, and organising service-learning opportunities for both undergraduate and postgraduate students between two institutions were discussed amongst faculty members.
