Biography

Byoung Uk Kang is an Associate Professor of Finance at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he has been a faculty member since 2009. His research focuses on delegated asset management and institutional investors, with particular expertise in hedge funds, mutual funds, and their intermediaries.

Professor Kang's work has appeared in top-tier academic journals, including the Review of Financial Studies, Management Science, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Contemporary Accounting Research. He has presented his research at premier finance conferences such as the American Finance Association and European Finance Association annual meetings, as well as in invited seminars at universities worldwide.

As an educator, Professor Kang teaches Derivative Securities and has previously taught International Finance and Risk Management at the undergraduate and MBA levels. He has successfully mentored doctoral students who are now placed at academic and industry institutions. Professor Kang also serves the academic community as an Associate Editor for the Asia-Pacific Journal of Financial Studies and as a reviewer for major finance journals.

He holds a PhD in Finance from KAIST Business School and earned his BS in Chemical Engineering (magna cum laude) from KAIST.
