With the emphasis on practical training and connecting classroom theory with workplace applications, PolyU is well recognized for providing professional education to meet the needs of society. This explains why the University’s graduates are extremely popular with employers, as reaffirmed by independent surveys over the years.
We place top priority on nurturing all-round students with professional competence. All students taking undergraduate degree programmes are required to complete a mandatory Work-Integrated Education (WIE) component as part of the curriculum requirement. And PolyU is the only university in Hong Kong which implements this WIE requirement starting from 2005/06.
Students can choose from a number of programmes to fulfill the WIE requirements. The Office of Careers and Placement Services (CAPS) also offers different placement opportunities for students to obtain valuable working experience before graduation.

In 2005, being the first among all the tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, PolyU introduced the mandatory Work-Integrated Education (WIE) component as part of our curriculum requirement. The WIE programme allows students to gain actual working experience through internship or placement programmes before graduation. Apart from the HKSAR Government and other local private business, students can undertake their internship or placement programmes in mainland China and other worldwide destinations. Recently, there has been an increasing number of students opting for offshore placement programmes. By the year of 2016, there were 1,200 students who fulfilled their WIE requirements in overseas organisations. Possible destinations are well developed Asian countries such as Singapore, Japan and Korea. Other countries like the UK, Australia, Spain, the US and Sweden are also available for international WIE. On the other hand, the fast growing business market in China is gradually becoming a sought after destination for WIE. Students can gain exposure to the prosperous and thriving economy in cities like Xi'an, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou. Apart from acquiring working experience through the internship programmes, students can also enjoy the vibrant and exciting city life in China. Through the internship and placement programmes of WIE, PolyU is well recognized for providing professional education that matches the needs of society and thus our graduates are extremely popular among employers.
