Introduction

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) aims to solve complex problems with innovative ideas and to produce high impact research that is relevant to industry and society. Major research endeavours within the Department are focused into the following areas: Power & Energy Systems; Power Electronics & Electric Vehicles; Photonics, Smart Material and Devices; Artificial Intelligence and Signal Processing; Communications and Information Security; Microelectronics & Quantum Technology; and Future Mobility System.  Currently, over a hundred research projects are being undertaken. These projects are mostly funded by the Hong Kong government, the Chinese mainland central, provincial governments and our industrial partners.  Many of our research degree graduates continue their career paths by becoming a researcher/an academic in local/overseas/mainland institutions or international renowned companies.

Our students’ research is supported by enthusiastic faculty members and support staff, who ensure that the Department provides students with a positive and nurturing academic environment.

The Department ensures that all research students have opportunities to enrich their research experience through research exchange visits, attendance at leading international conferences and participation in global competitions and departmental projects.

Applications are now invited for registration on our full-time programme leading to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)/Master of Philosophy (MPhil) by research in EEE. Please browse the e-prospectus to learn more about our research degree study programmes and EEE research interests.

We look forward to welcoming you to EEE!
