Keynote Speaker
Prof. Hongtao Zhou
Professor and Interim Associate Dean, Faculty of Design, University of Macau
Dr Hongtao Zhou is a Full Professor, Design Program Leader, and Interim Associate Dean for the Faculty of Design at the University of Macau (UM). He received his PhD from Purdue University and MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He serves as the Academic Director of the Permanent Collection SaloneSatellite of Salone del Mobile, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Vice Director of the Design Committee for China National Arts and Crafts Society. He has served as Vice Dean and Director of the Innovation Field of the College of Design and Innovation (D&I) at Tongji University, Shanghai Oriental Distinguished Professor, and Assistant Professor and Gallery Director at the University of Hawaii-Manoa. He is the Founding Director of the Shanghai Experimental Education Center for Design and Innovation at Tongji University. During his tenure as D&I’s Vice Dean for International, Tongji’s QS Ranking in Art and Design entered the Top 10 of the world for the first time. As UM’s first Design professor, he led the establishment of UM’s first six DDes and MDes design programs and three departments. Dr Zhou is a recipient of the China National Art Fund, National Social Science Fund, and National Teaching Award. He has published two national invention patents, 3 books, and more than 40 papers and copyrights. His creative practices integrate art, design, architecture, material science, and social innovation. He exhibited his work at the 40th Anniversary Opening Exhibition, “Printing the World”, of the Centre Pompidou, the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennial, and the China 70th Anniversary National Exhibition. His works are collected by Pompidou, the UC-Berkeley Art Museum, the University of Virginia, and many other institutions and private collections.
