Summary

People gather for countless reasons. Sharing a meal, playing a sport, or learning something new are only a few examples. Could these forms of gathering be not only an interest for design but also the very medium of designing?

Rather than treating social activity as an object of study or a setting for field research, this panel approaches it as a formable, responsive, and adaptive material resource to make and prototype things with. The event brings together cutting-edge perspectives from Hong Kong-based design practitioners working with the social across local communities, exhibition venues, and the public space.

This panel is part of Sociality Matters, a research project led by Dr Luis Vega and supported by the Start-up Fund for Research Assistant Professors under the Strategic Hiring Scheme of the University Grants Committee (UGC) of Hong Kong (Project ID P0058205).
