At the Spring Media Luncheon held in February, PolyU Council Chairman Dr Lam Tai-fai and President Professor Jin-Guang Teng shared the University’s future plans with the media, highlighting ten key initiatives for the coming year. As an innovative world-class university, PolyU is taking forward a range of initiatives that will shape its long-term growth and contribution to Hong Kong, the Nation, and the world. Read on to learn more about the future plans.

PolyU is committed to advancing its global standing and entering the world’s top 50, supporting Hong Kong’s position as an international hub for post-secondary education. PolyU also plans to upgrade its College of Professional and Continuing Education into a private university, developing it into a world-class institution that broadens access to quality higher education. Meanwhile, to address land and space shortages, the University is actively seeking approval to establish a new campus in Ngau Tam Mei within the Northern Metropolis University Town—creating additional capacity for future expansion in teaching, learning, and research.

Aligned with global educational trends, PolyU has launched the Education 4.0 initiative, a transformative programme that integrates artificial intelligence and smart technologies into a student-centred learning framework. Complementing these efforts, PolyU continues to enhance its Mainland Translational Research Institutes (MTRIs) to promote innovation and nurture technopreneurs, helping advance the Nation’s technological self-reliance. The University also plans to establish a policy research institute on education, technology, and talent, offering integrated, forward-looking advice that supports Hong Kong’s development and national strategic goals.

To deepen cultural understanding and national identity, PolyU will expand its Patriotic Education Bases to new sites in the Chinese Mainland. The University will also strengthen the development of the Confucius Institute of Hong Kong, reviving the Global Confucius Institutes Hong Kong Forum. In 2026, PolyU will host the third Chinese Culture Festival and prepare for its 90th anniversary celebrations, promoting the rich Chinese culture and inviting partners and stakeholders to join in celebrating the University’s achievements and contributions to Hong Kong, the Nation, and the world.
