To celebrate these achievements, PolyU has launched the inaugural “PolyU Top 10 Research & Innovation Stories of the Year” voting campaign. This first-of-its kind initiative, 20 outstanding stories have been shortlisted, from which voters will select their top 10. Through this campaign, the creativity, impact, and dedication of PolyU researchers are showcased, underscoring the University’s commitment to advancing research and innovation for the betterment of society.

 

From AI-driven innovations and material sciences to sustainable technologies, groundbreaking healthcare solutions and beyond, these stories demonstrate how PolyU’s research fuels discovery, shapes society and enriches lives around the globe.

 

From now until 24 March 2026, the PolyU community and members of the public are invited to cast their votes, support impact research and celebrate the University’s transformative work. Participants will also have the opportunity to win premium gifts, making their engagement both meaningful and rewarding.

A global leader in research excellence

PolyU’s research strength is recognised worldwide. In the Highly Cited Researchers 2025 list by Clarivate Analytics, 21 PolyU scholars are featured, including one recognised in two categories – placing them among the top 1% most cited researchers worldwide. In addition, 428 PolyU scholars are listed in Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Most-cited Scientists 2025 based on career-long and single-year citation impact, ranking the University second among Hong Kong institutions.

 

The University’s research performance continues to accelerate. External research funding has grown from under HK$500 million in 2019/20 to over HK$1.4 billion in 2024/25 – an increase of nearly 190% in five years. To further expand its research influence and strengthen knowledge transfer, PolyU has established over 80 research institutes, centres and laboratories. These include 20 research institutes and centres under the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR), as well as 12 Mainland Translational Research Institutes (MTRIs) across key Chinese Mainland cities, several of which are already in full operation.
