Brief Biosketch
Dr Chenpeng Tong is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Prior to joining PolyU, he served as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Metal Forming and Materials Modelling Group at Imperial College London, where he also completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering Research. He holds an MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
Dr Tong’s research lies at the intersection of advanced metal forming processes and materials modelling, with a focus on lightweight structural components for the automotive, aerospace, and rail transportation sectors, etc. He has collaborated extensively with leading industrial partners, contributing to energy-efficient manufacturing solutions that reduce cost and energy. His recent research highlights include the development of low-temperature hot stamping for steels, next-generation hot-stamping techniques for aluminium alloys, and the development of wide-thin and curved aluminium profiles for light-weight applications.
