Summary
Energy planning relies heavily on modeling and scenario analysis to select appropriate resources and technologies while ensuring a balance between supply and demand. Significant challenges persist in energy modeling, including the integration of temporal and spatial dimensions, managing uncertainty, enhancing transparency, ensuring model fidelity, and incorporating social and behavioral aspects. Despite advancements, energy models remain fragmented, still tend to follow deterministic approaches, and frequently fail to capture the dynamic feedback effects between policy, market development, and socio-economic changes. This talk will provide an in-depth discussion of these challenges, emerging methodologies, and future research directions to improve energy modelling for a sustainable and resilient energy future.
