Technical Visit to EMSD InnoZone and InnoFoyer

The E&M InnoZone showcases many interactive I&T projects that are the outcome of EMSD’s I&T collaboration with academic institutions and research institutions in Hong Kong. The exhibits cover the application of Internet of Things (IoT), automation, artificial intelligence and energy efficiency technologies. Our aim is to pool together local I&T efforts, accelerate the implementation and testing of innovative E&M solutions from universities and start-ups.

The E&M InnoFoyer showcases an array of award-winning, E&M related I&T projects that are closely related to the daily lives of the people. Visitors can learn about how I&T applications help create a safe and energy-efficient smart living environment.

On 20 April 2026, we had a technical visit to Electrical Mechanical Service Department (EMSD) InnoZone and InnoFoyer. We were guided by EMSD staff into InnoZone.

InnoZone is a showcase for innovation ideas done in the past. It has an InnoPortal that connects IT wishes that match IT solutions through IT trial projects. Successful projects were put into Innocatalogue. Some of the successful projects were introduced during the visit.

Normally when a lift is overloaded, it will activate bypass mode, other floors will be bypassed. In most cases, the bypass function cannot be activated because the weight is not up to overload level. AI Lift Occupancy Management System uses video cam to capture the lift occupancy area, once it achieves certain occupancy area percentage, the bypass function will be activated.

Another project is Government wide IOT network (Qwin), it can be used for monitoring water level, current transformers, indoor air quality, position system where mobile network is not available. The advantages are:   low power consumption, each transponder handles over 200 IOTs at the same time and can connect over few miles distance.

After the demo, we had group photos and souvenir presentation.

After that, we went to InnoFoyer and EMSD Gallery. We ended the visit at noon time; everyone had enjoyed the visit.
