From Research to Business: Nurturing Technopreneurs

Lean Launchpad Entrepreneurship Training Tailor-made for PolyU Research Students/Staff*


  • To nurture PolyU research students/staff into “technopreneurs”
  • To facilitate commercialisation of PolyU technologies
  • To encourage researchers’ participation in the PolyU start-up funding programmes
Learning Outcomes:
  • To be acquainted with the fundamental knowledge on technology entrepreneurship
  • To have some basic understanding on how to turn research outcomes/deliverables into commercially viable applications through business planning and creation
  • All teams will present their projects to, and receive comments and suggestions from a panel of investors/professionals
  • Top teams can directly go to the final assessment of HKSTP-PolyU Tech Incubation Fund (TIF) Scheme, subject to fulfilling the eligibility conditions of the TIF Scheme
Course Schedule: 22, 29 October and 12 November 2016 (Saturdays)
Fee:  Free ($200/person deposit, refundable upon 100% attendance)
Language: English (supplemented by Cantonese / Mandarin)
  1. All PolyU students/alumni/staff* are welcome to enrol in teams
  2. If you don’t have a team, you will be grouped into a team with other 3-4 participants
  3. Each team should have at least one PolyU research student/staff member
  4. Each team should have a technology idea to work on
*Priority will be given to students
Course Structure:
Hybrid learning mode by:
  • Online Learning Materials – for participants to learn anytime anywhere before attending each workshops
  • Workshops – for the participants to consolidate their learning through trainers’ teaching, guest sharing and interactive discussions among the participants

Though the project information disclosed by each team during the course will be solely used for the purpose of teaching and learning among the participants, NO Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) will be signed by the instructor/mentors/assessors or PolyU. Participants are responsible for the confidentiality of their own research/ innovation/ technology, and are strongly advised NOT to disclose any sensitive information (e.g. detailed technical information / mechanism) during the class that may be detrimental towards the IP protection and commercialisation of the projects concerned.
