Points to Note
Please read through the following clauses before you apply for micro-credentials
1.1. The micro-credential scheme is organised by IC.
1.2. Micro-credential courses are offered throughout the academic year.
1.3. Each micro-credential course has a minimum duration of 3 hours.
1.3. A class shall be considered viable only if the enrolment reaches 10 students, or 50% of the class quota, whichever is higher.
1.4. If the minimum viable class size is not reached, IC reserves the right to cancel the class.
2.1. The following PolyU students* are eligible to apply for micro-credential courses:
• IC Makubators; and/ or
• ClubMake members at the membership tier# of “ClubMake Maker” or “ClubMake Innovator” before course application closing date.
*Students in subject-based mode are not included
#ClubMake Membership Tier
"ClubMake Innovator": Experienced, proficient, and passionate makers who have joined 5 or more workshops or made 5 or more facility bookings.
"ClubMake Maker": Active makers who have joined 1 to 4 workshops or made 1 to 4 facility bookings.
"ClubMake Explorer": New members who have not yet joined any workshops or made any facility bookings.
3.1. A refundable* course fee shall be charged for each course as follows:
• HKD200 per course per student, for courses of 6 hours or below
• HKD400 per course per student for courses of more than 6 hours.
*refer to Section 6 "Refund Policy" for more details.
4.1. Applications will commence between Week 1 and Week 2 of Semester 1 and Semester 2. For courses offered during the winter break and summer term, flexible arrangements will apply.
4.2. Where the number of applications exceeds the course quota, places shall be allocated by random lot drawing.
4.3. Students who are offered a place must complete registration and payment settlement within three working days after the announcement of results.
4.4. Any student who fails to complete registration or settle payment within the specified period shall be regarded as having withdrawn from the course. IC may offer the vacated place to another applicant.
4.5. Late applications may be considered only if vacancies remain after the main application rounds and if operationally feasible
5.1. To be regarded as having successfully completed a micro-credential course, a participant must achieve at least 80% attendance.
5.2. Attendance shall be recorded by the instructor or the organiser using the official attendance record.
5.3. As a general rule, any absence from class shall be counted directly as absence, irrespective of the reason (such as illness, personal matters, competing activities, or other justifications), except under the circumstances set out in Clause 5.4. No make-up class, make-up session, or alternative attendance arrangement shall be provided for any reason.
5.4. An exception shall apply only where a student can prove that the absence arises from:
• a scheduled subject class; or
• an ad hoc rescheduling of a subject class
5.5. Such cases must be supported by documentary evidence issued by:
• the Academic Registry; or
• the relevant academic department
5.6. Cases under Clause 5.4 shall be handled in accordance with the refund arrangements in Section 6. They shall not give rise to any make-up class arrangement.
6.1. The course fee shall be fully refunded under the following circumstances:
• the micro-credential course is cancelled by IC;
• the student withdraws due to course rescheduling by IC;
• the student has completed the course and successfully met the attendance requirement; or
• the student withdraws due to a clash with a scheduled subject class or ad hoc class rescheduling, supported by documentary evidence issued by the Academic Registry or the relevant academic department (Clause 5.4)
6.2. The course fee shall normally not be refunded if:
• the student withdraws for personal reasons
• the student fails to meet the attendance requirement
• the student is absent for any reason other than those specified in Clause 5.4
• the student fails to complete registration or payment within the specified period
• the student no longer wishes to attend after enrolment
7.1. An e-certificate shall be issued by IC to each participant who has:
• completed the course; and
• met the attendance requirement
7.2. For each participant who has successfully met the attendance requirement, a study record shall be sent to SAO for record in the co-curricular e-transcript (CTT), subject to prevailing University procedures.
7.3. A unique code for each individual will be inscribed on the e-certificate, where the full record of one’s completed micro-credential courses at IC can be verified to help prove their achievement.
7.4. Where specified in the course description, an additional certificate may be issued by an external authorised organisation.
7.5. For courses involving external certification, any external examination, fee, assessment requirement, or issuance arrangement shall be governed by the requirements of the relevant external organisation.
7.6. Unless otherwise specified in the course description, external certification shall be separate from IC’s attendance-based completion requirement.
8.1. Safety is a mandatory requirement for all micro-credential courses involving equipment, tools, machinery, electronics, fabrication facilities, laboratories, or other practical activities.
8.2. IC shall provide adequate and suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) for each participant where required.
8.3. Participants shall:
• use the PPE provided as instructed
• comply with all safety rules and requirements of the course
• follow the course instructor’s safety instructions
• follow the course instructor’s machine operation instructions
• use equipment and facilities only in the manner authorised during the course
8.4. IC and/or the course instructor shall have the authority to refuse, suspend, or terminate a participant’s participation in any practical activity if the participant:
• fails to comply with safety instructions
• misuses equipment or facilities
• behaves in a manner that may endanger self or others
8.5. Any removal from class on safety grounds will regarded as an absence and may affect attendance and course completion.
9.1. Students are responsible for:
• ensuring that they meet the eligibility requirements before application
• completing registration and payment within the specified deadline
• attending classes punctually and in accordance with course requirements
• complying with all safety, operational, and conduct requirements
• informing IC promptly if withdrawal is required due to timetable clash under Section 5
• providing valid supporting documents where required
9.2. Students shall not share course materials, software access, machine access, or course-related resources in an unauthorised manner.
10.1. A student shall be placed on probation for the remainder of the semester if the student has been successfully enrolled in two courses or activities but fails to attend without completing formal withdrawal in advance.
10.2. For the purpose of this clause, the relevant courses or activities may include:
• micro-credential courses
• fun classes
• tasting workshops
• other related IC co-curricular learning activities
10.3. During the probation period, the student may be restricted from joining any activities listed in Clause 10.2.
11.1. IC reserves the right to cancel, postpone, reschedule, or amend any course due to:
• insufficient enrolment
• instructor unavailability
• venue unavailability
• safety considerations
• equipment failure
• severe weather
• campus closure
• other operational reasons
11.2. Students will be notified as early as practicable if such changes occur.
11.3. Where a course is cancelled or rescheduled by IC, the refund arrangement in Section 6 shall apply.
12.1. Any request for exception to this Manual shall be considered on a case-by-case basis and shall be subject to IC’s approval.
12.2. Any appeal relating to attendance record, probation, refund eligibility, or other operational matters must be submitted in writing with supporting documents within the timeline specified by IC, if applicable.
12.3. IC’s decision on such cases shall be final.
13.1. In case of any dispute, ambiguity, or uncertainty in interpretation, the decision of IC shall be final.
