Prevention of Heat Illnesses Training for Staff and Contractors

To enhance workplace safety during periods of high temperature and humidity, the Health and Safety Office successfully conducted two Heat Stress Training sessions on 29 May and 5 June 2026.
The sessions engaged approximately 80 participants, including CFSO staff and contractors, as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen safety awareness and preparedness in hot working environments.

Training Overview
The sessions provided participants with essential knowledge on:
- The fundamentals of heat stress and its effects on the human body
- Early recognition of symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
- Preventive measures to maintain a safe body temperature
- Emergency response and first aid for heat-related illnesses

Participants were encouraged to incorporate four core practices into their daily work routines:
- Adopt smart work arrangements – Where feasible, schedule work during cooler hours or in shaded areas, rotate physically demanding tasks, and take regular breaks.
- Stay well hydrated – Drink water regularly to replace lost fluids. During prolonged or heavy sweating, consider electrolyte-containing beverages to help replenish electrolytes.
- Wear suitable clothing – Choose light-colored, breathable clothing and sun-protective equipment (e.g., wide-brimmed hats).
- Improve the work environment – Provide adequate shade and ventilation, and minimize exposure to direct sunlight.
- Maintain awareness of heat-related health risks – Remain alert for signs of heat-related illness and seek assistance promptly if symptoms occur.
To reinforce learning in a practical and engaging way, each participant received a set of cooling body wipes as a takeaway souvenir.
Promoting a Proactive Safety Culture
Beyond knowledge transfer, the training sessions fostered a more proactive safety culture among frontline staff and contractors. By translating awareness into practical actions, the initiative supports safer working conditions and helps reduce the risk of heat‑related illnesses across campus.
