The Centre for Digital Assets and Innovation (CDAI), established in June 2025, is PolyU’s flagship platform for advancing research and innovation in blockchain, digital assets and Web3 technologies. The Centre brings together academic expertise and industry partnerships to drive the development of Hong Kong’s digital economy.
Leveraging the University’s academic strengths and strong industry partnerships, the Centre focuses on areas such as real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation, stablecoin development, and the building of Web3 ecosystems. As part of Hong Kong’s technology and innovation hub, CDAI conducts cutting-edge research, provides consulting services and policy analysis, and supports the commercialisation of research outcomes. Through these efforts, the Centre contributes to Hong Kong’s ambition to become a leading global centre for digital asset innovation.
White paper on "Application, Value, and Hong Kong's Opportunity for Compliant Stablecoins in Modern Commerce"
Over the past decade, the digital economy has reshaped global trade, yet cross-border fund flows remain hindered by outdated clearing systems. Compliant stablecoins are rapidly evolving from crypto-market peripherals into valuable cross-border payment infrastructure. Centre for Digital Assets Innovation under Faculty of Business, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and OSL Group have jointly conducted this research, combining academic rigor with industry expertise, focusing on B2B payments and corporate treasury management in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and emerging markets. As Hong Kong advances stablecoin issuance legislation, this white paper assesses the local regulatory framework’s impact on global digital trade. It aims to provide objective references for corporate finance and compliance departments, policymakers, and ecosystem participants, supporting Hong Kong’s development as a digital trade clearing hub.
