PolyU and Dassault Systèmes Strengthen Ties to Advance Digital Twin Education and Global Impact

In late December 2025, PolyU hosted a high-level delegation from its strategic partner, Dassault Systèmes, for a seminar on the future of digital twin technologies in engineering education and research. This event marked the first major academic exchange since the joint Dassault Systèmes–PolyU Center of Excellence was established in September 2025. Led by Mr Samson KHAOU, Executive Vice President (Asia-Pacific) of Dassault Systèmes, the delegation included senior representatives Dr Hongyu WEN, Dr Liang ZHANG, and Ms Joanne LI. They engaged with PolyU leadership, including President Professor Jin-Guang TENG and Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) Professor Christopher CHAO. Discussions focused on leveraging the partnership to drive international industry-academia-research collaborations. Professor Teng highlighted the Center’s role in enriching local teaching and innovation through global knowledge integration. Professor CHAO emphasised that such research alliances are pivotal for strengthening the University’s innovation agenda and international impact. During the seminar, Mr KHAOU detailed the company’s 3D UNIV + RESE strategy, which uses AI-driven digital twins to create dynamic virtual environments for education and research. This approach bridges the gap between academia and industry, preparing future talents for rapidly transforming sectors. The event also showcased practical applications in robotics and materials engineering, demonstrating how digital twins enable simulation, optimisation, and reduced resource waste. The seminar was hosted by the PolyU Research Centre for Materials Intelligent Manufacturing, supported by the Dassault Systèmes, Dassault Systèmes–PolyU Center of Excellence, 3DEXPERIENCE Edu, the PolyU Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship Office, and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Introduction to Dassault Systèmes–PolyU Center of Excellence The Dassault Systèmes–PolyU Center of Excellence, the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, combines PolyU’s research strengths in AI, robotics, and materials with Dassault Systèmes’ leadership in digital twin platforms. It aims to foster innovation, support talent development in “AI + manufacturing,” and contribute to industrial upgrading in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

2025 Highlights of Ir Prof. C. C. Chan: Leading the Global Electric Vehicle Revolution

The Department proudly celebrates the remarkable achievements of Ir Prof. C. C. Chan, our Distinguished Chair Professor, Director of the Research Centre for Electric Vehicles, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Throughout 2025, Prof. Chan has continued to be a global force in electric vehicle (EV) technology, sharing his visionary insights on the world stage and receiving a top honour for globally influential Chinese individuals.   EVS38 Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition: Pioneering the “Intelligent Integrated Car” Concept In June, 2025, Prof. Chan attended the 38th Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS38) in Gothenburg, Sweden. As the founder of the World Electric Vehicle Association, he delivered a keynote introducing his groundbreaking “Intelligent Integrated Car” theory. He proposed that EVs are evolving beyond simple transportation tools into “mobile energy and communication nodes”, a perspective regarded as the theoretical foundation for the “Second Electric Vehicle Revolution.” Later that day, aboard the Swedish ship “Götheborg,” a symbol of Sino-Swedish friendship, Prof. Chan witnessed the official launch of the “Nordic Academy Innovation Center,” successfully establishing a platform for transnational research cooperation and green technology development between China and Europe.   Fostering International Collaboration in Indonesia In late April and early May 2025, Prof. Chan returned to his birthplace, Indonesia, for a series of events commemorating the 75th anniversary of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations and the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference of Asian and African Countries. During his visit, he delivered a keynote speech at the Jakarta International Forum on “New Energy Transition and Global Collaboration”. His visit also included attending Indonesia’s largest international EV expo as Guest of Honor, signing a strategic cooperation agreement with the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association, a public lecture at the University of Indonesia, and technical exchanges at the Bandung Institute of Technology. Championing “technology for all,” Prof. Chan advocated for a joint China-ASEAN EV ecosystem. Through his “Four Networks and Four Flows” theory, he promoted integrating the automotive, energy, and information revolutions. He urged Southeast Asian countries to seize new energy opportunities, stating that “the second half of the automotive revolution belongs to intelligent and green energy; developing countries should not be left behind by the times.”   A Prestigious Honour: The “You Bring Charm to The World Award” In a crowning moment of the year, Prof. Chan was honoured with the prestigious “You Bring Charm to The World Award” at a grand ceremony in Beijing in July 2025. This award, presented by Phoenix Satellite Television in collaboration with global Chinese-language media, recognizes outstanding Chinese exemplars with global influence. In his acceptance speech, Prof. Chan expressed deep gratitude to his motherland and outlined his ambitious vision. He reaffirmed his commitment to driving the EV revolution from electrification to intelligentization and connectivity, extending its impact to smart transportation and smart societies. He prophetically described the future EV as the “third space” for humans and called for technology to “benefit all humanity and future generations,” showcasing the profound responsibility of a scientist with a global vision.   A Departmental Beacon and Role Model The Department of EEE is immensely proud of Prof. Chan’s achievements and grateful for his inspiring leadership. His dedication to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity serves as a powerful example for our entire academic community.
