In the wake of rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), we stand on the brink of a transformative leap in data systems. The imminent fusion of AI and DB (AI X DB) promises a new generation of data systems, which will relieve the burden on end-users across all industry sectors by featuring AI enhanced functionalities, such as personalized and automated in-database AI-powered analytics, self-driving capabilities for improved system performance, etc. In this talk, I shall first explore the evolution of data systems with a focus on deepening the fusion of AI and DB.  I shall next present NeurDB, our next-generation data system designed to fully embrace AI design in each major system component and provide in-database AI-powered analytics.  I shall also outline the conceptual and architectural overview of NeurDB, discuss its design choices and key components, and share our development plan.

Keynote Speaker

Prof. Beng Chin OOI

Lee Kong Chian Centennial Professor
Department of Computer Science
National University of Singapore

Prof. Ooi is currently the Lee Kong Chian Centennial Professor and an NGS faculty member at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and an adjunct Chang Jiang Professor at Zhejiang University.  He obtained his BSc (1st Class Honors) and PhD from Monash University, Australia, in 1985 and 1989 respectively. Beng Chin is a fellow of the ACM 2011, IEEE 2009, Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS) 2016, and Singapore Academy of Engineering (SAEng) 2023.
