On 17 October 2026, the Alumni Culture and Heritage Tours Club, the Alumni Foodie Club and the newly established Alumni Tech Club, in collaboration with the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations (FHKPUAA), brought together 100 alumni for an outing to the future Northern Metropolis to explore Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development, cultural heritage, and culinary traditions.
The first stop was the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP). Participants were warmly welcomed by Mr Vincent Ma Wai-shin, Chief Executive Officer of HSITP and a recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award of PolyU Faculty of Engineering, who introduced the Park’s strategic positioning and future development plans. Many alumni were particularly interested in the growing synergy between Hong Kong and Shenzhen; through visits to facilities including wet laboratories and talent accommodation, they gained insights into how HSITP attracts innovation and technology talent and enterprises, supporting the sector’s growth in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
The journey then continued to historic San Tin, where alumni were personally guided by Ir Prof. H.C. Man, Dean of PolyU’s Faculty of Engineering and former Village Head of Chau Tau Village. Drawing on his unique perspective as an indigenous inhabitant, Prof. Man led alumni on a tour of Man Tin Cheung Park, Tung Shan Temple, Tai Fu Tai Mansion, Man Lun Fung Ancestral Hall, and Tun Yu Tong. He brought the tour to life by sharing the history and cultural legacy of the Man clan, along with stories about his family heritage and experiences growing up in the village.
The event concluded with “Alumni Connect – Yuen Long”, featuring traditional Hakka cuisine at Tai Wing Wah Restaurant. Ir Prof. Johnny Fan Siu-kay, Vice President of FHKPUAA, and Sr Prof. Kenneth Pang Tsan-wing, SBS, Founding President of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association, also joined the gathering and mingled with fellow alumni. Everyone spent an enjoyable and rewarding afternoon reconnecting, sharing experiences, and expanding their networks.
