On 27 October 2026, more than 70 alumni and staff members gathered at the Alumni Atrium for the “Autumn Mixer: Karaoke and Boardgames”, jointly organised by the Alumni Singing Club, the Alumni Chess and Boardgames Club, and the Staff Club. The venue was filled with laughter and good cheer throughout the evening.
Ms Yvonne Li, Director of Alumni Affairs, welcomed the participants and presented “Mushroom Coffee” as a gift. This novel functional beverage was developed by Dr Nano Cheng Wai-yin, Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, who also attended the event to introduce her team’s research and the patented technology behind this PolyU innovation.
Participants moved between the board game and karaoke zones throughout the evening. Students from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Student Affairs Office Chess and Boardgames guided members of the PolyU community through a variety of games, while other players took the opportunity to learn strategies from an invited Guandan expert. The karaoke zone was equally lively, with singers taking turns performing popular hits and classic songs, filling the Alumni Atrium with beautiful melodies.
