Dr LIN Qian-ying

Tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Division of Biostatistics, The Ohio State University, USA

Master of Philosophy, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2017)
Doctor of Philosophy, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2019)

Dr Lin specialises in molecular epidemiology and infectious disease modelling, focusing on quantitative analysis of disease transmission to inform public health planning. She has published 27 peer-reviewed articles and four preprints on diseases including COVID-19, MERS, Lassa fever, tuberculosis, and influenza, with work appearing in leading journals such as Nature Communications and the Journal of Infection. Her research integrates applied mathematics, statistical modelling, and computational approaches to characterise epidemic dynamics and evaluate interventions. In her early COVID-19 studies in China, she provided key estimates of the basic reproduction number (R₀) and modelled behavioural and governmental responses, work that influenced subsequent research on outbreak dynamics and public health interventions. Dr Lin’s work has been cited over 5,700 times. Together with her h-index of 18, this places her among the top 1% of cited epidemiology researchers in the past seven years. Her publications have been widely referenced internationally for modelling infectious disease spread and policy evaluation. Currently based at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Dr Lin develops phylogenetic methods for segmented RNA viruses, such as Crimean–Congo haemorrhagic fever virus, to advance understanding of reassortment and evolutionary dynamics in infectious disease surveillance and modelling.
