This year marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance, a significant milestone in our history. On 25 May 2025, the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team gathered at the Cenotaph for Martyrs in Wu Kau Tang to pay tribute to the courageous revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives during this pivotal time.
This commemorative event provided PolyU students with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of history and reflect on the sacrifices made for our freedom. As team members poignantly stated, “Without the sacrifices of our heroes, we would not enjoy the peaceful lives we have today. History must not be forgotten.” Such reflections emphasise the importance of remembering those who fought valiantly for our peace.
By participating in this event, students not only honoured the heroic deeds of those who stood against oppression but also cultivated a sense of unity and resilience. Engaging with our history fosters a profound appreciation for peace and strengthens students’ national identities, sense of belonging, and patriotism. Together, we can safeguard the bright future of both our motherland and Hong Kong, honouring the indomitable spirit of the Chinese people.
